2007 commercial rear floor - Any space underneath ?

Hi all, I have the basic rear seat in my commercial and a previous owner has cut a nice big bit of chequer plate to cover the floor behind the seat. Looking under the loose plate the floor appears to be one piece of a composite board with a cut out to access the spare wheel winch. Usual tie down pints each side.

Is this the usual floor ? I am guessing there must be some space underneath. Could be useful for occasional item storage or a battery so if the floor is standard for a commercial has anyone "broken through" to utilise the space ? Was the whole floor lifted first or maybe cut through and then hinge some doors or a removeable hatch ?

The flat floor is standard on commercials, it’s screwed down around the side ex so gaining access would be difficult unless you wanted to take it up completely and then see if there were any voids. This is the floor of my 2016 commercial if that helps?

There’s naff all volume under the floor to the rear (where the 3rd row of seats would normally be), not worth even taking the deck up to look. Tonnes of space under the middle bit of the load deck accessible from the side, that’s where I’d bung a load of camping gear.

Hi, Many thanks for the replies it is the same floor. Looks like I will be grabbing some spare carpet tiles from work to cover it as I am undecided about a full width drawer. Think I will just go for a fridge slide on the left. Maybe a length of cargo rail in the centre also maybe on the right hand side by lash down points and slide boxes in and out to the right lashed when required.

Are you building an overlanding style back? If so I have built a module for the back, which I will probably be selling soon. It has a fridge slide on the left and 2 ARB draws on the right. I'll get some pictures up if you're interested.

Hi, Kilovolt.. hadn't seen the k9 drawers look good. JohnP ... Yours sound interesting but being in Swansea your not down the road ! I do know a good carpenter who is cheap if I went for drawers. I had a "U" for O level woodwork 😂 (class of 8.. 7 U's and an "E"). Fridge normally only goes in when camping but can be left in for a few days between trips.
