5 seat Discovery 4 Utility in the Republic of Ireland 2016
Sales of said vehicles are going through the roof - €50K plus VAT @ 23% for the base model and a little more for the HSE equivalent..... and road tax of €333, not surprising. Hope the same deal will be available with the forthcoming Discovery 5!

The word I've heard is that build allocations to dealers of the "Utility" is nearing an end & if not already, they will soon be no longer available to order.
The D5 is rumoured to be only be built as a 7 seater, certainly in the early years, which could very well signal an end to Utility Discovery's here in Ireland, leaving it to the Land Cruisers & Pajeros as the only option for a full size utility SUV.
Also, Revenue are reported to be cracking down on the Commercial taxing of Utility SUV's. While they do certainly qualify for commercial tax, they are subject to "Commercial Use" only & by the letter of the law are not allowed to be used for personal & social purposes. This was never really enforced up until now, but there are reports of revenue snooping around the car parks at golf courses, race courses & the like checking out the tax discs on Discos & the like. So I would think caution needs to be exercised when taxing a disco commercially.

Let us hope there is a 5 seat Utility version of the D5 and let us also hope the UK remains in the EU, or we will all be doomed when it comes to Land Rover in Ireland........
I'm sticking with my early D4 Commercial for now.....
I heard that there had been a High Court challenge which resulted in the N1 class vehicles now being commercially taxed regardless of ownership..... Hence why the Utility suddenly gained full spec options in 2014.2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

That's correct, you can tax them commercially, regardless of ownership. But the sting in the tail, is that by doing so, the use of the vehicle is subject to commercial use only, which by the letter of the law, does not provide for social, domestic or pleasure purposes. Much the same as a van "should not" be driven outside of work hours.
Enforcement of this has always been very lax, but there are reports lately of revenue cracking down on utility SUV's taxed commercially being used for social purposes.

Type approval number
Good afternoon,
Can anyone assist me to obtain a type approval number for a Discovery 4 Crew Cab?
These were sold in Ireland as a 5-seater and a vehicle category N1.
Your kind assistance will be highly appreciated.

Have a look here or contact them as they are responsible for national (Ireland) and EU type approval certification.
