Advice re selling

Hi

I have a 2009 D3 with 138,000 and full service history bar last service. Current valuation is approx £5k. fairly decent condition. Just had a new windscreen, new sidesteps, and two new EGRs, one less than 6 months ago and the other about 1 year ago. MOT and serviced last week.

Issues:
1. ESF - got this checked and its a seized actuator rod - New turbo approx. £800
2. Mild shudder - which I suspect is torque converter - New TC approx. £800
3. Side lights not coming on - fuse issue?

I want to fix the issues but the wife is giving me too much grief and wants to sell. I suspect it's to do with the fact that her mates are driving around in Volvos.

So, given the above will a dealer part exchange the car if I buy new/almost new or sell private for around £2,500.

A mate 'in the trade' said chuck it in the auctions but thats not the sort of person I am - don't want to stitch someone up.

Thanks for any advice.

Can the seized acuator rod not be freed off as per the guidance on the forum here?

I think a new TC will be over a grand plus... Sad but have you tried the Mega flush approach first ?

Good luck with whatever you decide Thumbs Up

My valuation from webuyanycar was around £3.5 and it's a 2008 with 143K....

when I've sold previously through them the agent didn't even drive the car, just checked it started, then proceeded to knock off £150 for an obvious mileage discrepancy due to an MOT tester missing a zero Rolling Eyes

I'd see what you'd get for PX value as you may get an offer from the main dealer with a minimum trade-in, though they will likely make it up elsewhere in the deal, either way it's going to end up in the auction if you go dealer, webuyanycar or put it through yourself - to be honest if someone is buying a disco 3 at auction they should be prepared for some basket cases....personally I'd try and trade it in as part of a deal on a new car, but good luck either way!

A dealer would quite probably accept the Disco as a part Ex, but would offer a low price, possibly not even reaching the £2k mark Sad
Ebay is a possibility, list the known faults, put a reserve or starting bid of £2500 if thats the lowest you want to accept. But my recent experience with ebay is its full of timewasting plonkers.
We Buy Anycar is another option, but be aware they will offer a price, then when you take it to them they will keep chipping the price down for every little fault they find, then deduct an administration fee, but if that final figure is acceptable to you it is the least painful way to sell.

Guy at garage tried to shift actuator but no success.

I did an online dealer offer which came out at £3750 but that was not manetioning any issues. At this rate i'll be paying someone to take it away Laughing Laughing

Maybe £1500 is more realistic if a mechanic bought it. I thought it would be something that someone on here would do up.

Cheers

to be honest, i would see what WBAC offer you, see what the dealer offers you..... and then take the best option for you.
Be honest in the description for WBAC and make sure the mileage is bang on what you tell them.

In either case, if the mechanical faults arent obvious then dont mention them. A dealer will most likely not even bother driving it. Both will put the car to auction but its their responsibility for the faults not yours.

I wouldnt sell a car privately without being totally honest, but i have no qualms about not telling a dealer about faults unless they notice.

that sounds pretty fair to be honest and as others have said just make sure you note everything upfront and it should be pretty painless, following threads on pistonheads WBAC seem to be increasingly raising offers based on lack of supply so now may be as good a time as any.....
