Airbag faults - where to find sensor?
Gents,
I have a persistent airbag light - red.
Reading codes, I get:
B0091-81 Left Side Restraints Sensor 1
B1A00-16 Control Module
B1A00-49 Control Module
B00D2-87 Restraint System Malfunction Indicator 1
U0073-88 Control Module Communication Bus Off
U0155-87 Lost Communication with Instrument Cluster Control Module
U0122-87 Lost Communication with Vehicle Dynamics Control Module
1. Where is the "Left Side Restraints Sensor 1"? in the door? the B pillar?
2. It reports open circuit - is there anyway to test the sensor itself to isolate the wiring?
3. B1A00-49 seems to indicate replacement of the RCM. But if the RCM had failed, how could it cause a fault on the Left Side restraint Sensor?

B1A0049: Internal electronic fault in the restraint safety device control module, Replace the RCM. Consult the Warranty Policies and Procedures manual if a module is suspect.
B1A0016: Control module circuit voltage lower than threshold value:
Voltage lower than (main control module voltage – 2 V) for > 10 seconds
Low battery voltage
High resistance control module circuit
When the ignition is switched on, the RCM supplies voltage to the crash sensors which carry out a self-check. After passing the required self-checks, the crash sensors continuously send "sensors active" messages to the RCM. If a fault is found, the affected crash sensor transmits a fault message (instead of the "sensor active" message) to the RCM. The RCM then stores the relevant fault code and turns on the SRS warning light.
The Left Side Restraints Sensor seems to be inside front left door.- Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

The live values look good - I get around 2 ohms on all the airbags, the seat belt and door switches are all reading correctly. Makes me think the RCM is working.ikonw8

All 6 impact sensors are the same... it would be nice to switch the one in the left door with another and recheck if the DTC changes...
In any cases I would check the RCM feed voltage first according to the main fault code.- Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

Update:
I removed the door card, and found the crash sensor. I unplugged it and re-ran the diagnostic. I got the same error but it was reported permanent instead of intermittent.
I unplugged crash sensor 2 on the B pillar and that fault came up as permanent.
I then put sensor 2 into the door (sensor 1) and re-ran the test. I still had an error code, intermittant.
However, I don't seem to be able to clear the codes, so I don't know if I am looking at old data or new.
Using a LAUNCH Creader Elite.

As Pete says with regards to the restraint pre tensioner , alas been here done that
Plse have a look on the ends of the seat belt pre tensioners , if they’ve fired ur see the rubber cover squashed and there will be wire sticking out the end , if u need a new / secondhand one they will be sided
If they haven’t fired it might just be the wire underneath the seat where it plugs into the connector block ?
When I had to replace some of mine I also had to reset the ECM crash data , hopefully it’s just the seat belt pre tensioners at fault and resets itself , if not the ECM crash data can be reset by companies , but again hopefully urs will reset itself if the tensioner is at fault and no other error codes found
If u don’t mind me adding , plse don’t use a multimeter on any airbags / live circuit as I’ve heard it can sometimes cause them to fire , plus as a side of caution best to disconnect the battery and wait for 15-20 mins before connecting / disconnecting any airbag system
Plus 1 ref what sidekick has mentioned , interior crash sensors are red, exterior ones are black
Plse also ensure ur battery is fully charged , should be around a min of 12.6 Vdc with the engine off

Thanks GStuart,
I will take a look at the seat belt pre-tensioners. I don't think they have been fired. I am the owner since 2014 and have never been in a crash. There was no crash history noted when I purchased the card either. Maybe the wiring?
I hope I don't have to reset the crash data, but I am not sure I even have any crash data - how can you tell?
Good tips on the airbags! Thank you. I haven't had to measure them at all, the Elite tool is reporting that the airbags are all good (around 2Ohms resistance), so I am leaving them alone.
Confirmed - both the interior sensors I have seen are red - FoMoCo made in Germany.
I will double check the battery too... Thanks!

After having spoken to a couple people including the GAP IID people, it looks like I need a new air bag (RCM) module... I can't clear any airbag codes, only collect new ones...
Hopefully that will allow me to clear the codes.ikonw8

All,
I replaced the Airbag module with a used unit from eBay. Good news - I was able to clear the codes; the old module was indeed defective. None of codes from the defective unit came back after I installed the new unit.
However, now I am getting a B1211-1B Driver Seatbelt Retractor Pretensioner Deployment Control - Open Circuit error. I can't clear it. The driver side pretensioner has not been fired (in my LR3).
Could this be a code from the car the new unit came out of?ikonw8

Final update:
After all - it was, in fact the airbag module. I replaced the airbag module (or RCM as it is known) with a good used unit. However, the error codes I was getting on the used unit were "phantom" codes. The replacement module was for an LR4. I used the GAP IID tool and the helpful folks from GAP to reprogram the module to my particular spec LR3.
Once that was done all the airbag related codes went away.
Now, on to the parking brake ikonw8
