Auto Lights
So... Mine stopped working this evening. On auto, the lights refused to come on, but worked properly with the switch in manual. Tried the fogs, side lights, full beam and they all worked. As soon as I put them in auto they went off! I even tried the twist switch that controls the wiper sensitivity as I seem to remember the two being linked on my Golf.
Any ideas?
They have started working now....

In the auto position I think they are powered via a different relay.
Glad they are back but I will have a think.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Yes the rain sensor is also the light sensor. The relay for the auto lights in R274 in the CJB (passenger side behind glove box). For a problem as you describe the relay or the switch are favourite; beyond that I would think sensor or wiring. You should hear the relay switch when you move from 'headlights' to 'auto' with the ignition on.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I can hear the relay switch clicking as it should when changing settings, and they have been working as they should since i posted.
I think I shall put this down as a one off... like the time I came out in the morning to find the discovery collapsed at the back. I spent a day worrying about what to check first, and it hasnt done it again since!
