Aviva Insurance Renewal - any good?

Hi

Just had my first full annual insurance renewal from Aviva - last year was just a part year ugrade from X Trail so didnt get full picture when I insured it.

they are quoting me £448 for the year. this includes SWMBO as main driver, me and the two kids (20 yr olds) as named drivers, limited to 10k miles per year.

Excess is a bit more that I wanted at £500

I read a report in the Telgraph on Saturday that a guy got a good deal for a Freelands from someone called RIAS (?) but never heard of them.

England

that sounds bloody good with two 20yr olds on the policy. Mine wanted over 3000 extra to add a 19yr old.

Sorry, Bit mis-leading on previous post. One is 25 the other is 28.

However, the 25 year old has written one car off last year(£6k paid out for a rite-off) and this was all declared.

Been doing some other quotes this AM and had Corhill quote me £380 with £250 Excess. Thnking about this one. Just waiting for the local NFU guy to come back with a quote.

Tried Rias (or something like that) as they were mentioned in one of the Honest John letters on Saturday and are meant to be good for old farts like me over 50. Came out at £1,100 - so, wont be going there.

Hi

I've just bought an 07 plate XS and did a fair amount of research on insurance. I'm 46 with 7years plus no claims and added my wife onto the policy. She is 39 and also has 7 years plus no claims.

The quotes varied from Landrover at just over £500 to Aviva at £310 with 4 or 5 others around about the £380 to £420 area, guess which one got my vote?!

My general impression from insuring cars over 25 years or so is that you always get a better deal by shopping around each year

RIAS are a broker, part of the Fortis group, and they only deal with drivers over age 50. They have a very small panel of insurers, typically only 4 or 5 of which one is Fortis itself. Typical sweatshop call centre split between Belfast and Bournemouth but they do have a strong focus on customer quality. If you get an online quote, smile in the knowledge that I had a hand in delivering their web quote system.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Slight improvement on prices.

Went to NFU local office and they quoted me something like £620 with the kids but offered "Centenary" disccount to about £550.

Still high compared to Aviva.

They then came back with £420 if just me and SWMBO and with the Discount for the centerary down to £361.

I can get the kids added for a week at a time if needed for up to 60 days a year for a small premium.

Just got to break it to the kids they dont have access to the Disco 3 now Shocked
