Cannot afford to dent her or roll her etc etc.

Will be watching the LR DVD later on my PowerBook (hotel again) so will try and pick up some handy tips.

The video is quite good, but nothing like actually doing it. Look at the gear changes on the bottom right, see what you think. I think they are a bit dis jointed.

No risks, that is the idea on the 7th. The course Gareth ran was one that has been used now for about 8 years. Across the road behind Billing is another, which is a bit evil. Tixover is a bit of everything and if we think you can achieve more, then it can be considered on the day.

Dirt should be the worst you get.

Hi Gareth sorry I missed you at the camp site but I did see you out on the course I was the marshall who waved at you at the end of the long water run, by the way you managed to make the air waves of the recovery crews as we was all sat listening it was announced a D3 had just done the mud run and as you was the only one on at the time it was you they was talking about well done.

The DVD is good if a bit short, it would be nice to have seen 5 or 10 minutes of actual driving over each type of terrain at the end of each section so you can see all the stuff that's been shown in action. Gear change stuff is very hard to follow, as you said auto on one side and manual on the other would be better. Even better would be a setup option to select your own vehicle (D3, RR etc) and gear type then only the correct graphics would be displayed including TR, DSC Low/Hi Range settings etc depending on what is fitted to the different models, this would be a fairly simple thing to do on a DVD nowadays

Slimer,

Agree... far too short and no real explanation of whats going on. I noticed some of the sections stated Hi 1 for terrain that to me would I'd have thought require a much lower gear in Hi or even use the Low box.

Maybe I'm wrong but tanking up grass in Hi 1 would cause wheel spin ??

Will watch it again later maybe and see if I ma seeing things wrong.

Scorpio, sorry I missed you, it was all a bit of a rush to set-up camp and get into the show for 12, so did not get chance to scout you out. As it happens, I think we camped about 20 yds from you! we were next to the big black truck with the racing team logo's with the white awning attached.

Fame at last! the D3 really did eat the course for breakfast, and I thouroghly enjoyed it. I have done much off-road driving in the past 10 yrs in my s2a, but I have to be honest and say that the D3 is in a different league. The question as to which is more enjoyable, I don't know. The s2a is more satisfying, as you have to drive it, the D3 does it for you.

The D3 is fine except for two scuffed wheels, and a scraped chin. The wheels are not dished enough to avoid catching the edge of ruts, and the lower edge of the front bumper is low enough to catch a steep approach angle.

One tip for you all for the 7th, do not totally rely on the HDC to arrest the vehicle on a sudden drop. It takes a fraction od a second to decide that you need slowing, and on the deep hole at billing that was not quick enough, hence the scraped bumper. You will still need to use the brakes. The whole of the course at billing was done in mud n ruts. I used rock crawl for the deep pit near the beginning of the course, but it was not really necessary.

I filmed the whole experience from the inside, and the 4x4 info screen makes interesting viewing. I will edit it down a bit and post it soon.

Can't wait to see the vid (QuickTime PLEASE ! and no Winoze or Real(lybad) CODEC's)

Be great to get some tips from you on the 7th... would really like to learn how to drive the DISCO3 properly off road and keep it form getting bent.
