I think the well looked after early D3’s are now quite a good prospect.
They are a lot of car for not a lot of money. This is great providing you can do your own maintenance.

I'm a couple of months into my first LR purchase, a D4. I bloody love it even though my OCD spots every blemish it has on the inside and on the black paint. It has been a god send already people and load lugging.
It will cost to keep on the road, but I'm sure it'll earn it.

After 7 years of being with D3 I though I'll never go for Discovery again. Loved it and hate it at the same time. TBH never really had any big issues with D3 but number of bits and bobs annoyingly enough to step away from Land Rover  And guess what happened - two weeks ago I've PX D3 and bought facelifted D4. Already changed diesel cooler, oil and filters, worked on water leak at passenger site and going to change cambelt over the weekend, steering column lock stuck ,fixed that as well (or rather BDM thinks it was fixed  ), new front tires, wheel alignment etc. 
So, again Discovery journey started and I have new toy to play with.
But I must admit - world looking amazingly different as soon as I'm behind the wheel and drive it around -  incomparable felling. There's no other car to give you that much anger and satisfaction at the same time.  MY14 D4 3.0 SDV6 HSE in Loire Blue
