Thanks for all the advise guys, no more questions now as I've just ordered the new toy, and hope it'll all be in place for the trip to Ireland this weekend  LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I have never done the tune on my aerial as I don't have a SWR meter. If anybody coming to Salisbury in a couple of weeks has one could they bring it along and help me do it.
I haven't even used my CB yet so maybe I will get a chance at Salisbury

Just a note for anyone also looking for a CB.
I went with this chap in the end because he was very patient with me, explained everything in detail - nothing was too much bother. Did a package deal and it's all arriving tomorrow 
Definitely worth speaking to if you're considering a CB LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Considering a unit but how much cable do you need to route it from the rear of the roof rack rail to an area close to the centre console (wedged between the passenger seat).
I notice that some of the antenna deals come with 4 or 5 metres of cable - is this sufficient.
Looking at the Midland 78 or Intek M-790 because of their size - anyone have any experience of these units.
Also, one last question, do they have an in-built speaker or do you need to wire the unit to the sound system/aux port. 2012 D4 - SDV6 XS - Firenze Red

Stick a remote small speaker inside one of the centre air vents. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

They come with a built in speaker ferrett but as they're in the bottom on the rig they inevitably end up broadcasting to the seat or floor so do as Andrew says, pull the centre console off and wedge a speaker down by one of the air vents pointing at you The End

Cheers for the tip about the Nokia speaker
I had thought about the aux port but then you need to be permently selected to AUX, not sure I would want that all the time.

Ok Some more advice please....
I have made up a bracket like CFB and have used an M12x20 (think I saw a post by TFC with the bolt size) and domed nut to fix to the rail, however, the bolt head seems very sloppy in the rail. It is all tight once done up but just not sure.
I have a standard washer between bolt and underside of rail and I am thinking a large penny washer may be the order of the day.
Any ideas, I was expecting it to be snug. 2012 D4 - SDV6 XS - Firenze Red
