Chime at engine start

When I start the car (2.7) for the first time each day, I get a chime when the srs light goes out - Thats ok - Then I start the engine - 'boing' another chime. This coincides with the oil pressure warning light going off. The panel does not show the snowflake so its not a low temperature thing! It only does this starting for the first time each morning. Is this normal?

Check you oil to be sure its ok. If you park facing uphill, then try parking down and see if it goes away. There is another thread discussing this issue. http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic5200.html?highlight=

The car is parked on an slight uphill slope, (about 5 : 7deg) I will try downhill asap. Being worried after reading about low oil levels/high oil consumption on some engines, I have tried to keep an eye on mine, but it's not easy to get an accurate indication. I took it to the dealer today and they dipped it and agreed that all was ok.

Could be an indication of battery voltage dropping - do you mainly drive it on short (>7 mile) journeys?

No, my journey to work is about 15miles and the car is used most days. (How I wish I could retire!)

I am commuting 125 miles each way at the moment, and mine is bonging twice, with oil at the top ball on the stick. Does not do it when facing down the drive, or when warm.

My dealer is going to keep it overnight on Thursday so they can experience it before service on Friday.

I will try the downhill thing at the first opportunity! Currently, the car stands for 9 :10 Hrs at work on the flat and no boing. Then about 13Hrs at home but on an uphill slope (albeit not steep) Boing! If the engine is switched off seconds after first start, then re-started again no Boing! It certainly gives some creedance to the slope theory. I'll keep you informed.
Thanks

Mine is parked facing down slope and occasionally up slope. Only ever had one bong warm or cold.

I was getting the extra bong sometimes, had put it down to the lingering oil light but as my -ve lead onto inner wing has been found at fault will be interesting to find out if the extra bong has gone.

The car was parked nose down last night and didn't give the extra 'Boing' I've done the same tonight to make sure, then it's back nose up again. If the boing puts in an appearance then, I will be able to demonstrate the fault (if it is a fault) to the dealer.

I have noticed that there is another item under 'Oil Warning Light' which also mentions the audible warning.

Thanks for all your advice thus far. I hope that I will be able to take Mike's advice soon!

I've completed the test! Two nights parked nose downhill no extra Boing. Parked it nose uphill last night and got that extra Boing after engine start. At least I know I can repeat the fault.
Thanks all, or the pointing me in the right direction.

Had the same problem. Checked the oil level and found it to be low. The oil level should cover the third red plastic marker, mine only covered the second. Added about 700ml of oil to cover third red marker and the second chime has disappeared.

Well, mine has just come out of a service last Friday, and parked facing up the drive this morning - 2 bongs! I checked the oil and its halfway up the top ball on the stick.
