Crank Gone... D4

Absolutely gutted. D4 (2015 SDV6) been fautless and dependable - not a hint of trouble. Took her in for a 100,000 service came back with engine sounding different - a light diesel "clatter" is all I can describe it as. Initially I though a cover had been left off or a different oil was used - called the garage who advise nothing odd was picked up.
2 days on, vehicle stuttered and stopped. Recovered to the garage who advised the crankshaft had failed. Wholly Censored off. Loved that car. Not sure I'll do another - very tempted to get a D5, but not sure I want the frustration.

Sorry to hear that. It's such a shame good cars get totalled despite being looked after.

If you don't need the off road capability of he D5, I can really recommend the Volvo XC90. It's incredibly capable, beautifully built and super comfy. Thumbs Up

Gutting that it's happened just after being serviced. I need to change the oil on mine shortly, wish me luck!

Certainly makes you wonder what was done on the oil service….Did they they use flushing oil and rev the nuts off it ? Did they start it with no oil in it ?……Well, that’s what I would be thinking .... Glad mine has never been near a dealer or Indy since warranty ended, and pleased to have never let anyone else other than me, touch it since, for that matter tbh. In fact I could not have been more relieved when it no longer needed to go to LR for servicing. Says a lot about my opinion of them eh ? Laughing In other words, DONT BUY THIS BRAND AGAIN !

That's a shame. Apart from the upset and inconvenience, it is another example of sudden and drastic drop in value. I would still stay with Landrover.
German so called prestige motors can be even more painful. It's a good idea to search for common problems and read the forums, before paying high prices for fashion over pedigree.

I’ve heard this before and I’d be seriously p****d if I had an engine fail after being into a “garage “ for “service “!

I’ve changed my oil twice a year for the four years I’ve owned my sport, I fact doing it tomorrow.

So glad I don’t have to use “garage’s” except for Mot and that’s bad enough.

Random thought, doesn't the oil filter have to go in in a certain way? If that is wrong maybe there is some liability?

It's a tough one as it's been making the noise after the service that you paid for. It could be complete coincidence but maybe it's worth getting some legal advice.

My D4 is just over the 100,000 miles I managed to get a extra years LR approved warranty on her it’s only the select warranty, but I am hoping that all goes well once the warranty expires I was thinking if it would be worth sending in to have the engine reconditioned and keep her

For what that would cost I imagine you'd be as well to wait and hope it doesn't happen. Keep it serviced regularly with the best and most appropriate oil you can get and cross your fingers.

If it goes, you've got the money and it's worth it to you to fix it you can make your choice then.

Wasn't there someone on here about a year or 18 months ago with a kaput D4 engine just after it was serviced by a garage?
