Crankshaft Oil Seal

Hi, I am new to the forum so hope I have put this in the right section.
I have a 05 2.7 Discovery.
I was just wanting some of your opinions, I have recently had the Crankshaft Oil Seal come out whilst I was driving. I had the belts, tensioner, crankshaft seal and oil pump changed two weeks prior to this.
I obviously lost alot of oil but luckily hadn't driven too far before realising and there was still some oil in,although not alot, when it was taken back to the garage by recovery.
The car was repaired free because it was a seal they had replaced and they got straight on repairing for me. I now have it back.
Is there any further damage that this seal coming out could cause?
It seems to drive good although haven't really tested it through the revs as I don't have much faith in it after what happened incase it happens again. It sounds ok when inside but I've noticed since getting car back there is a light tapping/knocking noise when you listen outside on idle and seems to speed up with engine revs when pressing accelerator. This wasn't there before seal came out.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Shocked Shocked Shocked

I would suggest you need to get another garage with experience of the TDV6 engine to give it a look over, the consequences of driving with no oil pressure on that engine can be very severe!
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

Thanks for your replies.

The garage is a Land Rover Specialist, and I was told all parts come from Landrover so not sure of the exact makes, the garage does have a very good reputation and they have been very good so far.
I did ask on the phone when he told me what had happened when it was recovered to them if this could cause engine damage and he said it shouldn't.
I feel very frustrated at the minute as I also got the manifold crossover pipe replaced at the same time so after paying over £2500 and to now have no confidence in it's reliability is annoying.
The garage recommended to have oil pump replaced as they told me the original is prone to failure, so I agreed to get this done whilst the body was off, wish I hadn't now.

What is likely to happen if you lubricate a PTFE seal before fitting, or fail to wait minimum of 4 hours before running?

Also if the seal doesnt go in squarely it can cause this to happen, hopefully they had the correct tool so shouldnt be an issue this time.

I must have fitted a thousand Victor reinz seals over the years and never had one leak or pop out. I have had one genuine LR oil seal leak, but that was my fault by not inserting it squarley.

I also do not wait the four hours before starting the engine, at most its about an hour, and once again never had a problem.

Flack Thumbs Up
