Dashboard air vent not working
one of my four circular air vents is behaving strangely: whatever the power of air blowing from all the other 3 vents, the one immediately to the left of the sat nav screen blows as if permanently set to fan position 1. My 1st thought was that the connecting air hose/tunnel had come loose; but if this was the case, surely the airflow (however poor) would still change whenever the fan speed is changed, but no. My current thought is that it might somehow be an electrical issue?
Anyone got any suggestions/similar experiences?DGRR

Well that's certainly a tricky one. I would think that something was obstructing the vent. I don't think it is an electrical problem but I have never had my dash apart to see how the ventilation system works.
Please allow me ask a stupid question. The vent is not partially closed is it? There is a slider switch under the vent. Sorry I just had to ask.
Good luck, I hope you get it sorted.2000 Discovery 2 Kent Green (totaled) R.I.P.

dgrr, it does sound like a restriction of sorts, not heard of this one yet.
But I would go for vent control first, the wheel adjuster just below the vent,

have you taken the trim around the sat nav screen off. the vents are attached so once removed you should be able to elliminate the vents themsleves and maybe see if some pipeing has come undoneDuncan

As mentioned you need to remove the trim and eliminate the vent mechanism.

Thanks for the responses...
It's definitely not the vent control wheel - in fact, this works just as it should, completely shutting off all air supply when in the closed position.
Is removing the trim around the sat nav straightforward? I'd be grateful for directions to any relevant posts/piccys...
thanks again for everybody's help DGRR

On the front of the vent is a Thumb Screw to allow more/less air. Behind the trim the same Thumb screw actually is a half circle with teeth, sometimes these jump off in the open or closed position, maybe this is your problem.
Just remove the H trim around stereo by pulling evenly at the bottom nr transmission tunnel, pull upwards as it hooks under dash and the vent will come with it
And this one you can just make out the WHITE teeth on the turning wheel, bet thats the problem

Thanks MacLeod... so, just to be sure, should I first pull the H trim horizontally backwards (i.e. towards the gearlever) and THEN pull upwards, or just pull upwards from the start? Sorry for being a bit thick DGRR

Right, how I did mine was exactly like this
1.Hold both Legs of the H trim at the bottom
2.Thumbs on the Inside, fingers on the outside edge
3.Pull Evenly and slowly from the bottom till it unclips
4.Follow the procedure upwards till you get to top of stereo
5.Holding the loose part of trim, both legs, pull slowly and evenly towards the roof, the top of H trim hooks under dash where vents are.
Hope that helps sir

I finally got round to this yesterday... turns out that the vent-open/close wheel was working fine all along. The cause of the problem was a dislodged flap which had come to rest half way down the air pipe.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for Jason's advice, instructions & pics DGRR
