Diesel filter confusion

I have a Discovery 2007 with both the new diesel filter style (twist filter) and also the old one with the 5 pins on top with the squeeze and pull connections.
Question is are the old type filter just a dummy due to pipe connections and dosent contain a filter inside of it ?.
My newer Discovery 4 dosent have the second filter only the twist on filter just behind the steel protection plate in front of fuel tank.

Was there some kind of transition periode between the new and old style diesel filter ?

Perhaps I'm reading this very wrong, but are you saying you have two filter types on the same 07 vehicle?.

07 (7AA) should have the twist on type filter, pre (7AA) or EU3 should have the older multi connection style filter.

No you dident read wrong there are 2 filters 1 twist and 1 pusch connections in series.
On the early 07 win it might be that due to shortage of correct fuel pupes or redesigned fuel pipes that they just put in a dummy and not the filter itself inside.
I realy dont know but was more than suprised when i discovered it.
Maybe some previous owner did some rebuild linked to a engine swap ?

Check your chassis number you may find its a late 06 that wasnt registered until 07 it will have a 6AA in the chassis number.

If so the original filter would have been the one at the front, this is not a straight forward filter it also has return pipes going to it. Someone must have added the twist on filter or replaced the fuel tank from a later vehicle.
I dont know what effect having two filters fitted in series will have on fuel pressure as each filter must cause a small restriction.
I would look to putting it back to standard if it were mine

Nope its a 7Axxxx so its strange and i would guess it was the other way that the engine was replaced with
a 6Axxx engine and they used the pipes already fitted on the engine and included the filter but dident remove the existing new type filter.
Anyway its strange and i was hoping there was a reasonable explanation her but probably not.

It could be but it's the long way round it would be easier to swap the pump and injectors over.
Have you checked the chassis number on the chassis to make sure it matches the one on the body?
I would look to see what pump you have fitted as it will have an effect on some of the parts you may need to replace later there are some photos somewhere on the website

If it works and there are no issues might be safer to leave it as it is?

Engine wont rev above 1200 rpm but that might be something else because the gearbox throwing a faul and limited gears available and not neccesarly fuel starvation.

There's a video been shared on here recently where changing the filter on a d4 seemed to make little difference to fuel flow but fixed similar issue.

Edit ...

It all seems original with bracket for new filter type and old filter type and no signs of any cut in with amatour hoses etc it apears to be original.
I would guess it left the factory like that and someone in here have seen this before.
Maybe i am right in that the secondary filter is not a filter just a dummy for pipe distribution to diesel oil cooler.

I would leave it as it is, just replace the twist on filter when requiredbut i would follow robbies guide to the low pressuresystem and make sure your pressure and flow are correct.

The other filter may need changing at some point as although its not filtering fuel from the tank it will be filtering the return feeds

Thanks Aja4x4 sounds like a good idea, the twist on is brand new so will replace the push on connection filter also just to make sure.
