Disco 3 or 4
Hi
I am new to the group, I have been researching a lot in the last month about the disco
I am looking for a comfortable 4x4 to be our second car for surf trips and adventures with the dogs
I am in Italy and I can get a 2007 HSE around 165.000 km for 9.000€ or a disco 4 2012 with more than 200.000km for about 14.000€ But here I leave not much budget space for fixing it.
My most concern is about the issues every one talks about. Is it really that bad and how much are talking about to fix the most common issues.
Should I consider another cars ? But I always dreamed to have a discovery
I had a 1998 Suzuki vitara and it was a surprisingly off road monsters for the surf trips in the south of Portugal but ever year something would break that would cost me around 600 to 1.000 to fix
Now I am looking to upgrade that car.
I will problably sell the car after 2 or 3 years, the ideia is to change the plate to Portuguese (I can do that with one car due to immigrations rules and not pay the crazy taxes ) and make a profit because these cars in Portugal cost at least double than Italy. But I am worried about how much will cost me to keep a car like that running for 3 years
I need help guys

Yeah you should worry.
A 2007 would require a new oil pump , so cost that in.

There are great vehicles and when they work they are briliiant.
But, and we all know there is going to be a "But", they will throw problems at you and you need to have money in the bank to fix them or be very good a wielding a spanner/hammer.
That said, most of the posts on this forum will be about problems, very few people post that their car has been running perfectly. (We all know not to do this as she will hear and will immediately throw up a warning light ) If you are lucky and get a good car it will bring a smile to your face and give you many many kilometers of happy motoring just be aware they do like money be spent on them Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

I went for the D3 over the D4 because I preferred the less shiny wheel arch and bumper plastics? I wanted a rugged look with no side steps but rock sliders? The D£ gave me a head start on that aspect of ownership?
