disco 3 brakes

hi all, have a disco 3, 09 plate. Only used to tow with. Anyway fault has appeared. when you drive and turn a corner even at low speed 10mph or so. front brakes grabbing as if ABS is active and the A in a circular arrow symbol lights up then goes off. Put Scanner on it and isn't logging any fault codes. any ideas as cant even drive it to garage.

What age is your car?

Press the dsc button to drive it to the garage etc.

Maybe a brake callipers siezed but if it’s bad as you say, could be steering angle sensor needing calibrating.

HI. Again just tried it using the dsc button and great job i can now drive it any ideas on fault could it be a angle sensor or ABS sensor, just wondering why scanner not picking it up. But great advise on the DSC really helps.

You get no fault codes because the car thinks its operating normally.

Read how to calibrate the steering angle sensor.

Steering Angle Sensor is my thought too.

Mine was undriveable when this went and the silly plastic collar that turns the sensor had come loose on the steering column. Had to dismantle and use epoxy resin to secure the collar and then reset the sensor. What a dreadful design the thing is!

I had exactly this issue, it was the steering angle sensor...

Hi, just in the process of fitting this steering angle sensor to the D3, quick question
Is the little disc that the sensor fits over mend to be loose on the steering shaft as this one i can turn with my hand it doesn't seem to locate firmly on the shaft, Is this right or is the location pin broken Thanks to anyone who can confirm

The ring should be tight on the splined shaft. When they go, the disc part usually breaks around the collar, if the ring is not broken and the complete disc is turning on the shaft then the ring could be secured to the shaft with araldite. The ring does not work under torque, it just sends pulses to the sensor unit and there is an air gap between the face of the ring and the face of the sensor itself.
You will have to recalibrate the Steering Angle sensor afterwards to 0 deg. with the wheels straight ahead.

The fix applies to the manual and electronic (Memory) columns. I have the electronic fitted. The ring is not available as a spare part and the universal joint would have to be removed to fit a replacement and the joint is a press fit on the splines. Many people have carried out the fix with the column in situ but I removed the column from the car when I did mine, (a) so I could get full and easy access to the ring with the unit on the bench and (b) I'm not as agile as I used to be !! Plus the sensor unit can be fitted to the column on the bench and alignment and clearance set prior to gluing Thumbs Up
