Block is scrap unfortunately.

The energy released warps the block causing misalignment which cannot be reversed. Sad

You're best option is either a new block from LR, or a donor from a write off if you can find one.

Even if the block isnt twisted the engine is line bored fitting caps from another engine wont match.

so in essence what you are saying is once the the crank breaks, that's it throw the engine away?

The block yes, pretty much.

If you did decide to repair it LR will not sell you a crank, con rods, bearings etc, So you will have to use aftermarket components. Then after all that there is the question of how long it will last if it runs properly at all.

You could try a PM to Oval Auto's, or to Disco Mikey and seek their opinions. Both are acknowledged authorities on that engine with more experience than me, but my opinion is only what I have experienced myself.

It's a dreadful position to find yourself in, but best of luck whatever route you choose. Thumbs Up

Unfortunately yes especially as in your case the caps are damaged.
I have not seen one yet that was repairable after a snapped crank.

You say it has damaged big end bearings- shells only or has it damaged the bores in the block and caps? If the latter it’s total scrap. If just the shells it ‘may’ be recoverable, but I doubt in a commercial manner, ie it would need to be a diy job to assess. Key issue is alignment of the main bearing bores - main bearing total clearance is 0.002 to 0.004 mm - the slightest distortion between the bearings will mean the crank will not turn - block scrap. So I’d suggest you need the block trueness checked with a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). £££££.

Then you will need a crank - three options I can see:
1/. Buy a Chinese crank off eBay - bad idea!
2/. Buy one of the ‘genuine’ cranks off eBay - provenance????
3/. Buy a crank for a Ford F-150 king ranch 2020 model. This has a version of the lion 3.0 engine. Having spent a bit of time looking at this engine I suspect it’s the same crank. But who knows. You can find the crank listed for $585 on Ford parts suppliers in the states.

Then you need bearings (main and big end). Ford (engine manufacturer) have 3 grades (thicknesses) of bearings for each location. Apparently from reading the codes on the block and crank you can determine what should be fitted…. I can’t de-code this after much effort. So you will need to order one of each size. Trial fit in each location to determine what is needed, then do a final order to get the full compliment of bearings. I’ve only found the bearings for sale in the USA.

Don’t think it’s worth the grief if the cranks gone in my view.

Is OP in Oz? Does that shift options more towards getting a Ford F150 engine?

Think the pistons are different as the us version has a compression ratio of 16.5?:1, d5 twin turbo is 17.5?:1

Is the block casting identical, or do you know?

If it was, I think most peeps could live with 16.5 cr so long as the FI system was happy with it too!
