Haven’t heard much on the oil dilution issue for the D5, is it fixed or are LR still sweeping it under the carpet and blaming driving style?

LR are hoping the lockdown reduces the dilution issue because people won't be driving. The engine will probably still dilute the oil anyway and LR will blame people for parking incorrectly... Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

3.0 is better than the Ingenium, but still suffers doing short journeys
Apparently, the D150/180 were much worse than the D240. The bigger cars (D5/405/494) have space to move the DPF closer to the engine than there is on the DS/Evoque, so failed regents are less of an issueMy D3 Build Thread

Is the DS also suffering from this? My folks have just bought a new DS and yes, it will do a lot of short journeys once we can go out. I did explain the them what fuel dilution os but the explanation went straight over their head and their thoughts we’re along the lines of “there are lots out there so it must be a good car”.

Didn’t LRO or LRM have an “investigative journalism piece” where they determined that the DS suffered from it, too?

Daresay you get the odd good one, hope your parents do, just wouldn’t bet my pension on it.
What's the issue with them? Is it a quality issue or just not enjoying driving them etc.?
Honest query as I've only driven them for a day at a time as loan cars from my indie. I've quite liked them in that context but obviously it's not the same as living with one.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The 3.0 engine in the first D5 that I drove, wasn’t nearly as nice as the later EU6 SDV6 D4 engine. It felt less refined, with a somewhat jerky power delivery. I think from memory that it had a single turbo, which probably accounted for it.
The latest SD6 is a world apart and is definitely the pick of the bunch if you’re buying a new or recent D5 and money/mpg isn’t a concern. It’s smooth, very powerful and turns the D5 into a bit of a dragster in a straight line. I’m still driving a 69 plate SD6 (long story) and have clocked up over 4K miles in it, the lieometer is showing 32.3mpg, which I suspect is optimistic and compared to the true long term average of 27.9mpg in my last D4, good but not that good. The only negative of the engine is that it doesn’t good (the SDV6’s in D4’s did) and is oddly characterless for a V6.
I’ve driven several 2.0 D5’s and they’ve all been far better than you’d expect them to be. However, I never drove them with more than one passenger. Fully laden and/or towing would I suspect be a different matter. Again, they don’t sound nice at all, a bit harsh and thrashy.
I’ve spoken to two LRA technicians, two main dealer technicians, one of whom was a “master” technician and a main dealer service manager recently. They all said that the most problems were with the 2.0’s and that the 3.O still had issues. They also all said that the old 2.2 was by far the most reliable engine.
That’s not to say that they all have issues though. Two of my colleagues have DS’s, 17 and 68 plates and have had no engine related issues yet, one friend has a DS which has been nothing but trouble, despite regular long journeys. So that’s 2/3rds! 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
