ERG and Gearbox fault and Coolant message |
|
Got a few Jobs that need doing on the Disco and looking for advice and recommendations form who can do the work in the Merseyside Lancashire area ?
I had one side ( apparently the easy side ) of the erg replaced about 2 years ago car is sluggish and hunts sometimes in gear now and I imagine it needs the other egr fixing ? Other fault first occurred in the summer in a trip across Germany and the longest tunnel in Switzerland en route to Tuscany the gear box went into F mode.
We made it there and back using manual mode and never using 6th gear all went well and we made it back to Blighty.
Along with this the check fluid light appeared, no loss of fluid or engine temp increase, from reading on here I can see that fix should be a new bottle and coolant change.
Belts where done at 100k when we bought the car which is now showing 171, did consider upgrading to Disco 4 but can't see what else it does ? Maybe I'm thinking better the devil you know.
On a side note we had a brand new Disco 5 3.0litr hse on loan for over 7 weeks after a crash, (delivered with 35 miles on it )between myself and my son we did over 4000 thousand miles in it, it was a lovely car very fast but not in our opinion anywhere as near as practical as the 3/4.
If you are wondering why it took 7 weeks to fix the Disco 3 apparently they could not get the factory body kit/bumber for the front of mine, I did try on here to find one but in the end they decided to repair it !!!
Back to my original post, does anyone think a gearbox oil change will fix the fault or should I investigate other know issues first ? Any help or recommendations of good value specialists will be apreciated.

I would blank both egr valves and change the coolant reservoir bottle.
The coolant light is on because the float has failed inside the bottle. Andrew
