EGR valves need replacing?
Please: my (independent) dealer tells me that the diagnostics show that the EGR valves need replacing and that it is dangerous not to do so as the motor might cut out at any time. I have not noticed any loss in power although the car has not been used too much recently for obvious reasons...
Please could anyone help advise what I shouold do? Thanks.

Just blank them and drive it. It’s a cheap £15 job.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

They open and close to allow recirculating of gasses to keep the emissions down.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Thanks so much. So is it right that they could cause the motor to cut out if they fail? Thanks.

No -id guess the garage is just pressuring you into work being done. The worse that should happen is your vehicle will feel sluggish.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

If an egr sticks open the car can actually catch fire - the hot exhaust gas goes straight back into the plastic cylinder head. This happened to me on my 2009 HSE D3
Fortunately caught it before the fire got a hold and received a payout for fire from the InsuranceMust stop buying shiny toys....

That’s why it’s best to blank them to stop any fumes even entering the EGR’sDefender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

If you blank them off, does it have any undesirable consequences? Does it screw up emissions on the mot? Thank you all for your help.

Muffle the valves. The heat exchanger is additionally removed from us. The program is being changed. Let Greenpeace think about the air. The car will go very quickly and there will be no mistakes.
