Webasto Thermo Test 3.0

Just in case anyone needs it, I have the Webasto Thermo Test version 3.0 available. 65Mb's so can't put it in the gallery. If anyone provides a link, willing to upload. Or you could just wait untill tomorrow when I will do a better test.

ELM327 based ODBII adapters will not work with Webasto FBH

As I found out the hard way, the widely available and popular ELM327 based ODBII adapters are not able to communicate with Webasto units (FBH) as they do not support raw data over the K-line.

There are other posts around covering this but I think it would be helpful to include it here and also in the Wiki if possible.

Any one any ideas? Have I fritzed the comms bit?

FBH itself works fine, would just like to be able to purge it

I had same problems first time I used the webasto software : car don't sleep..........

Open bonnet , open window , close all door (close car if you want , just "have" the horn alarm bonnet is open) wait 10 min , (park brake light and /or sat nav screen off) , connect obd loom to FHB pin 2, run software, then , powered OBD loom, and only after this , run "diagnostic" in the software..... If doesn't work , check number of the "port COM" in window !!!

Keep me informed... Wink

Hello guys !

I have the same problem, but my car sleeping !
I did everything according to instructions step by step:

1. Open bonnet , open window , close all door
2. wait 20 minutes (park brake light and /or sat nav screen off)
3. onnect obd loom to FHB pin 2
4. run software
5. powered OBD loom
6. run "diagnostic" ( port COM and W-BUS is OK )
and nothing Big Cry

and once again with changed pins 4 and 5 in OBD

I have software version 2.14 and with 2.16 the same= nothing Big Cry

OBD II diagnostic cable is ok, diagnostic in car is run

help me please

The manual's pretty good - check the wiki page: www.disco3.co.uk/fbh

Unless you mean for version 3, in which case I don't know.

FBH question

Hi there, after changing my first D3 for an Audi A6 (9 months only) I have just bought another Disco 05 SE with the cabin pre heater option on the drivers information screen. Problem is I can't get it to work on the time setting. The fbh works for normal driving i.e.. below 5 degrees etc.
Any suggestions?

That screen should no longer be there, it was removed in a 2005 software update (which that car evidently never had).

It doesn't work unless the radio head unit is kept switched on - but it turns itself off.

Check the wiki. Early 05 with built in fbh control was very troublesome hence it was deleted at next software update.
best bet would be to get a webasto 1533 timer and remote or purpose made one from Bell Auto Services.
All in the wiki Thumbs Up

Edit: too slow Martin beat me to it Laughing

Ok Guys - as winter is coming, I decided to take care of my FBH.

Opened it, cleaned (expected it to be more dirty than it was), and installed back into the car to test it.
I DID NOT connect the water pipes for test purposes (thought if I had to remove it again it would be easier not to connect it) and now there is a question:

Is it possible that the unit is not working properly every time I trigger it because the water pipes were not connected?

I used Danhag first to fire it up. It started with plenty of smoke all around - not only from the exhaust Twisted Evil It scarred me a little so I shut it of using phone again. During the next attempt to start with phone I could clearly hear that the unit is ticking but the fan does not engage and the FBH don't start.

So used IIDTool to check the operation. Started the procedure twice and every time the FBH seems to start fine - I can clearly hear burning inside, the smoke comes out of the exhaust, but after around 125s the unit shuts down and I can read 2 faults on my IIDTool:

Auxilary Heater

B1D23-13 (2E) Overheat sensor circuit - General electrical failure - circuit open
B1D34-68 (2F) Heater in lock out mode - Algorithm based failure - event information

Any ideas?
