Here's hoping the social media companies identify the culprits to the police and that firm action is taken.

Here's one that's easy to identify ...

A Conservative MP has apologised after suggesting Marcus Rashford should have spent more time "perfecting his game" rather than "playing politics".

Natalie Elphicke, the Tory MP for Dover and Deal, made the comment in a message to MPs after the Euro 2020 final.

Football really has been dragged down to become a ‘scum’ sport.

An avid footballist as a kid, I won’t go anywhere near this so called’ sport’.

Anyone else remember World Cup Willie from 1966?

Note the flag being waved then compared to now.

Yep, a stuffed lion as I recall.

I also remember Esso coming out with a fluffy tigers tail and World Cup coins.

The flag was the Union Flag. I noticed that the flag of St George is often altered by modern so called football supporters. If you need the word England on the flag of St George to remind you what it is the flag off......

Perhaps the Union Flag was used because the United Kingdom was hosting the tournament. Perhaps also there was less overt nationalism what with there being no devolved Governments at the time.

Overt nationalism in England has certainly increased since 1966 and has got worse in recent years.

It's not just English nationalism Brendan. Scottish and Welsh nationalism has also increased. It's just that England has a much larger population and so is "noisier" than the smaller nations.

As for football thuggery, England has had a problem with that for many years.

It's refreshing/enlightening/heartening to see the England v Pakistan ODI today. Everyone getting on together and enjoying themselves. Good hearted rivalry. Can't blame the football thuggery on alcohol - you can spend the whole day drinking at the cricket including taking your drinks to your seat.

Rugby much the same.

It just seems to be soccer that has a problem. No idea why. It's not limited to the UK either - many other countries have football violence and thuggery.
