I've seen worse, scary though. Big Cry

They look like alloy particles rather than ferrous. Is any of it magnetic?

no the elements are not magnetic. Do you think it comes from the connecting rod bearings?

Voila, I came back from vacation with a rental car.
My RRS is warm in the garage waiting for the report.
I contacted a company that does oil analyzes, I am waiting for the kit to send them a sample.
I am in France, could you tell me what is the cost of an engine in UK with transport in France, in case it is screwed?

I don't think you're in new engine territory just yet, and very possibly won't be either.

There are a number of options open to you not least is to rebuild what you already have, in no particular order these are:

Option 1. New bearings, possibly cams, cam followers, chains, tensioners, belts, oil pump, gaskets/seals injectors, turbo etc etc, it all depends on how far you want to go! The biggest issue for you here is who you choose to do the work!!

Option 2. Find a replacement from a Jaguar "S" Type, though these are becoming harder to find as many have already been cannibalised for D3's and then scrapped.

Option 3. A new short block (if it is still available?) but you'd still have to repair any issues with the heads, and replace the other items listed in option 1. I'm not sure of prices for a new block but if it's still available I would think you can expect to pay at least £4kStg + vat.

Option 4. Since you're engine is still running OK, you could also move it on and put the money towards trading up to a D4?

Don't be tempted to let the engine recon merchants touch it or buy a replacement from them. There are just too many cowboys out there and the components/workmanship are very often poor quality.
There are exceptions though, and you could have a chat with site sponsor Oval Auto's who are highly regarded on here. I don't think they still service the 2.7tdv6 but they will be well placed to advise you further.

PROFSR G, Thank you for your very complete and realistic response. here in France not many options, I will contact a specialist in this engine that we advise me to inspect the various components that you have listed.

I come to give news, the company which analyzes the oil announces to me that the oil must have 2000kms for a reliable analysis. So I have to wait and take the risk of riding this distance. Unless I find a garage that can analyze the engine.

The only way to analyse the engine is to take it apart!

Drive on, if it goes kaput all your questions will be answered. If it's any comfort to you my own D3 had particles in the filter in 2016, and again on one another occasion since.

It's done 70k since then, pulls like a train, and starts in the first 2 seconds of turning the key!

I don't loose sleep over it, neither should you. Very Happy

If you want to hedge your bets you could:

1., Fit new filter
2/. Drive another 100 miles
3/. Remove filter & cut open again - hopefully you will have no more particles indicating no further deterioration.
4/. Fit new filter

Repeat after say 1000 miles if you feel you want the confidence boost?

Did you see particles also in the filter? Did you change the engine?
I traveled 500kms yesterday, praying that everything will go well 😨. And everything went well.
I admit that it prevents me from sleeping sometimes 😪

Very good idea I will order a filter to do it because I had to travel 700 kms since the last oil change and the discovery of particles.

If more particles are found either:

1/. Turn up radio to LOUD and accept that it will self destruct in the near future
2/. Remove engine, strip and investigate with the aim of intervening before it becomes non repairable...

My 2p worth.

Laughing Indeed, I think a disassembly and necessary while it is still running. The hardest part is to find a competent garage on this engine ...
