Gallery Pressure

Could someone please explain this to me.

I’m trying to sort out a suspension issue on the project car and trying to understand the live values.

So any info about gallery pressure, what it should be, what it should do etc.....

Cheers guys Smile

The gallery itself is the shared space within the reservoir valve block where the collective supply pressures are measured in one place (gallery!)

The system ECM will run the compressor until an operating pressure of around 1,780 kPa is reached. (compressor shuts off)

This is the baseline pressure (datum) for satisfactory system operation. The air is fed to two valve blocks, one at the rear and one at the front of the car. Height sensors on each corner signal via the ECM to open the valve blocks until the ECM determines correct height is achieved.

What trouble are you having? Codes?

No code as yet. But think there’s a leak somewhere.

It’s very slow to fill and doesn’t seem to stay up for very long when I stop.

I’ve got to recalibrate it all tomorrow as the front right seems to sit lower. But the compressor is running a lot.

Also when I was reading that live value the highest the pressure would go is roughly 1100 before dropping down again.

That's too low for sure. If you search on here you will find a couple of threads with my readings from when I was having issues. This includes the shut off pressure and the vented pressure. Might be of some help.

All I mean is, as PROFSR G says, there's a pressure the compressor needs to achieve to charge the system. It will then vent and the pressure drops back to a much lower level, something like 2-300.

You should be able to watch the gallery pressure rise to 1700+ then drop quite quickly to 2-300.

All from memory so I could be mistaken!

Could be a leak, perhaps the reservoir tank and if it is it's usually at the top. If it's bad enough, and you get down alongside the left passenger door you might be lucky enough to hear it with the engine off.

If your compressor is overrunning it will quickly become doomed! An air leak can cause this, but so too can the drier if it's clogged or the desiccant has become saturated. (easy fix)
Do you know what compressor is currently fitted? It's either a Hitachi, an AMK, or a cheap aftermarket version of either! I'm also surprised you have no fault codes as this system is very sensitive to any fault and will quickly tell you there's a problem.

What diagnostics are you using?

I put a new compressor on 2 weeks ago.

It’s a hitachi style one from my local motor factors.

It did have all manner of codes, but since I cleared them they haven’t come back.

I just know there’s something not right with the gallery pressure lol

Cheap eastern junk I'd guess! How much did you pay for the compressor?

If it is not genuine Hitachi, AMK, or perhaps even Dunlop it won't last beyond a few weeks!

Lol, that’s why I bought from a local reputable place so that if it does go wrong I can take it in easily Smile

Rather than an eBay special Smile

That’s the same one on eBay. From the same place.

Hitachi copy, seen it all before and I'd be surprised if it lasted beyond 6 months.

The 5 year warranty will be of little use as I doubt they'll still be in business or trading under a different name long before it expires!

The retailer has been round for quite a while round here Smile

A bit safer bet than an eBay purchase lol
