GentleTent Sky Loft - anyone seen or used one?
Hi all.
I'm researching tents and this one caught my eye. It's pricey, but looks to fit the bill for my needs - something rooftop (to keep the creepy crawlies at bay, and for security whilst sleeping), big enough for the family (2 adults, 2 kids), and also easy enough to put up and down at the same time as being not too heavy.
It's an epic looking roof tent, like a penthouse apartment on top of a vehicle...
I'm open to other suggestions if any of you regularly house your family inside a tent. I don't have the space for a caravan, and whilst I'm quite hardy my wife really doesn't enjoy sleeping on the ground.
This one is air-tube rather than framed, with two zipped bedrooms and a brilliant ground floor annexe. I can't think of a more complete roof tent setup.

We currently use a 5m bell tent with log burner, double airbed (with foil blankets underneath) and there's still room for two good size dog beds in lieu of child beds.
Insect proof, intrusion proof (due to the dogs!) and we can drive off to get supplies / have a day out / explore without having to pack everything away.
One of my 'comfort tests' is, can you get dressed standing up? with an Oztent or bell tent, then yes, I've always found rooftents problematic in that respect. When I go wandering with a one person tent +dog, we're sufficiently off-grid that getting dressed out of the tent isn't likely to attract the attention of the (not so) local plod...
Oh, and there's a log burner in it, did I mention that?

I had a closer look at the Sky Loft at a fair a while back when it was just released.
Compared to our aluminium hardshell tent it is huge!
Inside space feels good and bright and you can almost stand upright.
You can put it in glamping category
Unfortunately the tent was already setup on a VW Multivan - so I cannot tell how easy it is or how long it takes to setup.
We also travel with 2 kids and know that every inch counts and I immediately loved the enormous given space. Unfortunately this setup doesn't fit our needs - we usually only stay 1-2 nights at the same place (mostly wild and this tent ain't stealthy and too slow to setup).
But if you stay on camping sites that's a great mobile penthouse. The floor has the same construction like inflatable standup paddle boards and is very sturdy.
The plastic smell was strong but hopefully will fade.
If you need fast setup and break down time, a hardshell RTT is the way to go. But one that fits 4 is difficult to find - maybe the iKamper but that one is still only half the size of the Sky Loft.
Did I mention it is huge?_,,,_______///________
