Going electric

So we decided to take the plunge and get ourselves an EV. I quite liked the Renault Zoe (245 miles on the WLTP test cycle), but SWMBO had other ideas Sad

She wanted the Jaguar I-Pace (292 miles on the WLTP test cycle) Shocked

After many hands of paper-rock-scissors, I lost Censored

I was then charged with ordering one (no pun intended) and went online to see what was available. I have to say that ordering a new car online is a doddle. The only hard bit was clicking on the "BUY NOW" button.

2 weeks later this arrived on our drive...

...and SWMBO got the first drive Neutral

However, all was not good. The car had 70 delivery miles on the clock. The driver who delivered the car didn't mention any problems, but it was definitely not right. When pulling away and up to 10mph, there was a clicking sound. The only was to describe it was like putting a lolly stick in the spokes of a bicycle as a kid to get that 'engine' sound.

I took the car to work and apart from the noise, it was a great drive and quick! When I pulled up and selected reverse to park up, I got a lovely dashboard message...

...which was rather odd considering the car has motors, not a gearbox.

A call to Jaguar assistance from a very Censored off customer then followed. Now under normal circumstances I'd have plugged in to find out what the codes were, but knowing that each diagnostic event is recorded, I decided not to do so in case I got the blame for something I didn't do. Besides, the car is GSM connected and they'd know straight away.

Jaguar sent out a technician, Ian, who (weirdly) I know from my Coventry dealings and we looked at the codes. A quick check with control and the following TSB came back, JLRTB02012NAS2 (look it up).

Basically the Park Locking Pin was trying to engage while driving Exclamation

Ian arranged for the car to be lifted back to our nearest dealer for repair. The lovely chaps at Guy Salmon then arranged for a loan car and they delivered this lovely beast within a couple of hours.

I have to say that the service is great, but the car let the company down. My late father-in-law would not be impressed.

So in the meantime, I'm driving an SDV6 3.0 wondering when it will go wrong. Didn't have long to wait....

.....for that familiar feeling of RP.

Maybe the Renault Zoe might have been a better option IMHO, but if I want a peaceful Christmas, I'll just keep my mouth shut..... Rolling Eyes

We had a Zoe for a couple of weeks on trial and I really like it. Looks like it'll be an ID.3 for us though mainly for the extra space.

Good luck with the Jag. Hope it gets sorted quickly!

She didn't choose it for the extra miles, just the extra kudos in the village Mr. Green

Hi Joe, other than the parking pawl fault and some bad 12volt batteries they are nice places to be. I've been lucky enough to have owned one. Only sold as I prefer a high up driving style of the Disco....

Enjoy when you get it back.

I like the i-Pace a lot and hope that it gets sorted quickly 👍

At least no one’s going to be able to blame the Coventry workforce for either of these issues Rolling Eyes

My student this week was until recently an engineer on the team that developed the new electric jag, she has spent the last 6 years on it involved at all levels.

She drives a 3.5 litre petrol bmw and says a modern diesel engine is far more efficient and cleaner than any ev.

Let the debate begin.

No debate from me

At work we are in the process of aquiring a couple of electric fridge vans

The best option available right now gives a 90 mile range, 5 to 7 hours of fridge operation and costs around 55 grand

We are only doing it because of the PR value, the reality is that they currently do quarter of the work of the equivelent diesel vehicle and cost over 20 grand more

We had the car delivered on 1st December and it's still at Guy Salmon. Apparently waiting for parts on back order. I periodically use the Jaguar Remote on my phone to flash the lights and beep the horn just to remind them it's still there Razz

Sorry to read about your troubles. Very frustrating on a brand new vehicle.

Hope you don’t have the D5 “loaner” as long as I had mine!
