Head gasket repairs don't work

If you've ever thought about using a gasket repair solution like Steel Seal, don't bother. It doesn't work at the best of times, let alone on a diesel engine that has high cylinder compression.

All that happens is a mess. Coolant galleries, radiator, EGR's and heater matrix all get blocked with gunk.

I mean, it doesn't bother me because we charge for the time taken to flush everything out.

Good point, it is also the same with the radiator sealants that are about. They block the radiator and heater matrix

And let us not forget good old fashioned ‘butchers floor’ sawdust for making the engine quieter.

But the eggs do work
In the 80's as an AA patrol, I attended 2 Nuns broken down in the middle of nowhere returning from their grocery shopping for the convent.
Radiator leaking
No, they really didn't fancy being towed, not at all.
2 eggs into the radiator, stopped the leak, and I followed them back to Convent to make sure it got them back.
I did suggest that they apologise to the repairing garage for the mess in the cooling system.
