Help - European recovery needed

Hi folks,

My D3 tdv6 2007 is dead in Odda Norway and I need to try and arrange my own recovery back to Scotland. Does anyone know of any firms I can contact or is there anyone on here that could help?

I have already contacted seeker services but they are unable to help. Someone mentioned that 'trailered movements' on here maybe someone that could help?

Really desperate to sort this quickly so any help appreciated 👍

Cheers
Simon

You may want to read this thread.

And this one from p16 onwards https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic161399-225.html

No easy way to say this; you aren't going to be recovering your D3 unless you are prepared to pay out several times over what it is actually worth.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

What about fixing it out there so you can drive home. Do you know what’s wrong?

Lack of compression that's all. I am not able to afford paying local rates to get it going though. It may be a strip out job and just write it off like the threads above ☹️

Any chance you can get it in Brevik?

And travel yourself by plane from Oslo to scotland somewere?

Picking it up in Immingham UK and transported to your home must be a reasonable option then?

Just an idea…
 Best regards

The last 'transport' I did out of Norway about 4 years ago was from Bergen. I had a boat to take to Arhus in Denmark which helped with costs, but from memory still charged £3k + VAT for the return journey.

Sea crossing routes have changed a bit since then, but if you could find a boat from Norway to the UK that would take your car as freight, you'd just need to arrange transport to the port, and collect it wherever it landed in the UK.

Bear in mind within a few days 'cowboys' will not be able to operate within the EU and Norway without an Operators Licence, so the prospect of a cheap job is even more remote. Of course, if you were doing the job with a trailer yourself, the requirement ceases.

I have retired now, but if I hadn't and I were to quote, it would be £5k + VAT, which might give you an idea of decisions you have to make.

There is a site called Shiply, where you can post your transport requirement, you never know, there maybe someone looking for a return load.

Simon, my 'quote' as it were, is based on the fact that I'm on the south coast of England.

Anyone who is nearer, and that would mean most, would be able to do it cheaper, but it's the ferry costs that are the primary costs for this journey.

Good luck

I presume your European cover won't recover it because of the cars value vs cost to repatriate?

Yes I read through your saga yesterday so sad. I am home already. Booked flights for myself and my daughter. Got the feeling that I will just walk away from it and enjoy the memory of what was a fantastic 3 week Scandinavian adventure.

Just can't justify the additional expense to make the difference uonfir the repatriation cost, then the repairs.

It's a tough pill to swallow but looks like that's the direction of travel at the moment.

I just had a re-read of half my thread but had to stop, welling up is not a good look in the lounge of a hotel in Vienna, not at the loss of the car but the support of friends on here. Plus I’d had a very tough start to that year as lost my twin brother to cancer, that put leaving the car into perspective. Thumbs Up
