High intensity brake light.. Gone dim!

Thoughts requested one and all...

Disco 4 HSE (59 plate) had MOT other day and they said middle brake light not working... Just an advisory

Just been out having a look... In the dark you can see it is working but very dimly... Anyone had this happen to them?

Perhaps a plug in wiring loose?

Help very welcome Very Happy

Bulb coated itself from the inside? Sounds daft but happened to SWMBO's car once. No idea why but the bulb ended up with a metallic coating on the inside.

".. bulb ended up with a metallic coating on the inside ..", they do that, the filament evaporates over time and has nowhere else to go. however the hi level light is made up with LED's so I would guess dodgy earth as suggested, or a defective lamp unit.

Used to work fine Clive and as you say led so unless it's suddenly decided to give up the ghost (hope not having read what a pig it is to replace!) I'm hoping it's the earth... How do I test that?

I've not come across this problem myself but the wiring diagram shows a wire from the lamp going direct to it's own separate earth point via one plug & socket connector, I would assume the wire goes through the rubber tube at the top of the tailgate and to earth somewhere close by, might just need to remove the plastic trim across the top rear inside.

High level light is LEDS.
