High level brake light glowing

Walking past the rear of my 2010 D4 tonight and noticed three glowing patches in the HLBL, not as bright as when it’s in use just a dull glow, pulled a few fuses to see if it went off but no luck, it’s a fairly new unit bought from a local Indy, anybody else had this before I go fuse by fuse?

Finally got round to investigating this further, I’ve 4.7v at the light with everything off and shut down, anyone know if it’s normal or willing to test theirs?

Small update, unplugged the brake pedal switch and tried pulling fuses which yielded little result, the only fuse to drop the voltage was in the engine bay FL16 which I believe feeds the passenger side fuse box, so I’m guessing there could be an issue with that?? also tried a new light same issue, and tested at the rear lights the voltage is there but they don’t light up, asked the main dealers if I’m missing a resistor or something obvious but they weren’t aware of anything

Are you getting the same 4.7v to all the brake lights or just the top one?

Eta Sorry, just read your last post and see that you do.

Do you have tow bar electrics fitted? If so try unplugging the harness and see if you still have the problem

Just to know, did you change anything about main rear stop lights or about rear number plate lights ?
Did you also checked the ground connection ? Rear number plate lights have the same ground connection.

Appreciate the input, I have two lots of wiring to the trailer electrics one looks factory the other not so much! I disconnected both but no change, I have changed the rear lights to the black ones and the number plate lights to leds along with the interior lights, I’ve disconnected all these and again no change, with the HLB disconnected the voltage is 7.7v
I’ve traced the loom back and unplugged it along the top of the boot, the voltage goes from the HLB but is present at the plug, from what I can see it then goes down the pillar and I guess to the front of the car? I’ll study the wiring diagrams and try figure out where the other end of the loom is and go from there!

Never a dull moment!!

Unfortunately not, I did sell them to a local chap he may accommodate a quick check, they were also led and the new to me ones are Landrover Valeo I guess there could be an internal issue with one of them?
Any idea what the resistance should be on each light?

Fingers crossed this is the final update!
Hopefully someone will find it of use one day!

Long story but after some more investigations, clutching at straws and some assumptions I connected a relay in parallel to the HLBL which consumes the voltage, assumptions are-
it’s an induced voltage that would normally be consumed
I’ve change interior lights to LEDs taking away the inductive filament lamps
The relay fitted now consumes what the interior lights would have

Not the most convincing argument I know but let’s me think it’s fixed Confused If I get the time and enthusiasm I’ll swap all the interior lights back to prove it…. Maybe
