Interesting info on replacement engines |
|
From another site, Hi all
I’ve seen several unfortunate posts on here with cars having either seized engines, spun bearing shells or snapped cranks. Each is of course a disaster for the owner and usually getting on for £9k+ for a fitted replacement new engine from JLR.
Some independent specialists on here will already know this, but for those who don’t and for the benefit of all owners- there is a programme that JLR run called Remanufacturing where used parts are returned, stripped, seals, bearings etc replaced and blocks re ground, machined etc.
These engines- and a further 900 parts- are now available through JLR dealers for the trade to buy at a significant discount and come with the same warranty as new. It’s also searchable on the eCat system and highlighted Orange to make finding the listing easier.
This just may be the difference between scrapping a good car and repairing it.

This has been a thing since at least I started in the dealer in 2005
If a warranty replacement, JLR will not authorise the fitting of a brand new part, if a reman/recon option is available
And while they do carry a discount over brand new parts, its not usually a "significant" saving My D3 Build Thread

what price is a recon engine from JLR. If its reasonable I can start to use the loud pedal to its full extent and not worry about the crank Faultmate MSV-2

Thanks
Worth having if I need one as its less than a years depreciation on a replacement car and as my 2010 D4 has only got 69k on the clock.
Do we know which years / vins are at risk I saw a post which I cant find now that said JLR know the vin numbers that might be affected Faultmate MSV-2
