What is that electric motor noise? |
|
So I did some digging around to see if I could find any posts related to the noise I've been hearing recently on my LR3, but no luck so far. So I ask:
When I cut the car off after my drive home from work, I can hear an electric motor running in the back - under the passenger side rear wheel (american). I'm sure this has something to do with the air suspension, but I don't remember hearing the noise before and I don't use the ride-height adjustment during the day so I can't imagine why the reservoir would be empty after such a normal drive.
I'm crazy right? This is normal and I have an obsessive compulsive problem, right? Sigh.....

NO, Not at all....Just paranoid Unless you check the noise EVERY time and then you are OCD.
Sorry, not much help for your (other) problem though! regards
Peter

Mine too....it's quite a comforting little noise isn't it?
Could it possibly be the rear air-con unit shutting down? The compressor definitely doesn't run when the ignition is turn off... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I get humming, but mine appears to come from the ballast thingys at the back of the headlights. Occasionally there's also a robotic type noise from somewhere under the plastic cover on the motor.
An of course it also passes wind avery now and then! Have a nice day!

Well, I'm glad I'm not just hearing things. But now i'm REALLY curious what it is, since nobody seems to know. I suppose it could be the rear AC unit, but I usually keep that off unless I've got passengers.
Oh well.. Anybody else have this noise and know what it is??

It'll be the flux capacitor.....fluxing
My D2 ABS module used to "tick" but with a "squeaky swing" type noise, 24x7 never flattened the battery even when left for 3weeks...puzzling Cheers

Ahhhh, it's the flux capacitor, fluxing. Thank God for that I thought it may have been
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.
What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

The "Back to the Future" films were quite LR-related, there was the great line:
"Roads? Where we´re going we don´t need roads".... Cheers

I'm afraid that the reality is probably much more boring. Its most likely the electric park brake automatically putting itself on (the electric noise is the motor reeling the cable in).

funny noises in mine turned out to be the nav DVD player under the passenger seat (UK)....couldn't tell where it was coming from when sitting in the drivers seat and it carries on after switch off chattering away to itself. end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Right. The US version doesn't apply the EB automatically. So that's definately not the noise. Besides, it goes on for about 2-3 minutes after I shut off the car.
ooh, maybe it's a transformer disguised as an LR3! Ok, so I just watched that movie a couple of days ago. 2013 LR4 HSE lux | Santorini Black | 5.0 V8
