We did manage to get it into Neutral so she's off on the low loader and I wait with baited breath to find out how badly broken she is. Still no sign of a hire car yet......

Hope she doesn't do the usual LR trick, it gets to the dealer and starts perfectly resuming in the favourite "no fault found" diagnosis. They like messing with your head. Banging Head

ISTR a thread on here to do with the high power starter motor lead wearing through and causing a problem with starting? something to do with bad routing of cable.

did they check that?

My experience is the same (twice). If the brake is solid and the car won't start, get out and fully lock the vehicle for a minute. Then unlock and it should start immediately. I did read on another thread that you can achieve the same by pressing the brake very hard but I haven't tried that as so far the fault has not recurred again.

I dam near had the break pedal through the floor this morning and tried the whole 5 - 10 minute wait thing to no avail. The car is with the Stealers now and I'll post pnce they come back with their collectve wisdom.

Enterprise have "sourced" a car in Edinburgh that should be with me shortly as a hire car, allegedly its a landy of some sort.....

Update

So she's back, open circuit to the starter caused by a blown master fuse. Sadly no explanation as to why the fuse blew, so I'm now on tender hooks in case this is a recurring theme. Hopefully we can chalk this up to its just being a landy....

Have to say can't really complain about the service from either LRA or Morrisons in Strirling, whole thing resolved with minimal drama....

Could you carry a spare fuse, if it blows swap out & get it to a stealer at your leisure? Alternatively swap it back where convenient for you to be recovered from, if you take it to the stealer no LRA car.

A few months ago, when I was on the road, I lost the Nav and Radio etc. Thinking that it was a duff fuse, I managed (after a struggle) to get the old fuse out. It showed no sign of fusing but I replaced it with one of the in vehicle spares and it worked. At this point, the vehicle wouldn't start and I though that I had screwed it up. I went back to the fuse panel and pressed them all home firmly and the vehicle started. I can only think that I must have dislodged a fuse and that the Nav fuse wasn't blown but had just worked loose. Maybe that was what had happened in your case. Wiggs will be along to confound my theory as he's the Sparky ( Laughing ) but it's a maybe.

Whoever designed the fuse panel to be located where it is must have kids to do the fuse changing. Evil or Very Mad

They put it in totally inaccessible place coz you're not supposed to need to change them as nothing goes wrong to make them blow. Shocked

At least that's the theory, yeh right! Rolling Eyes

This "trick" is not restricted to LR. A friend had a similar issue with his Audi. After many visits to the dealer over the course of a year, he decided to get rid.
