| Knocking all of a sudden then shut off |

Any help would be appreciated 
Driving fine previous day….. started engine drove half a mile when really loud knock began 30 seconds and everything stopped. Low fuel level flashed up and won’t start
Is this engine gone

Does it turn with a bar? Could be battery failed or even just the earth. Knocking could have been fuel starvation. Fingers crossed it’s something simple.

It was running so battery and earth unlikely. However, good call to try and rotate the engine, but it does sound like it's toast.  New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I had just got timing belt replaced and serviced 2 weeks ago so thought I was doing well.
I’m not mechanically minded at all so guessing this is an expensive fix? Geting to mechanics Monday or Tuesday so just preparing myself
