When will JLR accept that this problem is world wide, and not in specific markets?

TBH it is in their interest to prolong it as much as possible. Were they to replace every engine (and I don’t think they will in China either) after 10 years could easily be a few cool billion in materials and labor.
Just look at J&J who knew about the possibility of asbestos in their baby powder for decades and did nothing (according to Reuters).

Due to the manufacturer's manufacturing reasons, some of the vehicles in this recall may have premature wear due to insufficient lubrication. In extreme cases, the crankshaft may break, causing the engine's power output to be interrupted, posing a safety hazard. Jaguar Land Rover (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will diagnose the vehicles within the scope of the recall and replace the improved engine for free of potential risks based on the diagnosis to eliminate potential safety hazards.
I wonder if THIS is the real reason JLR are looking for £1.5Bn in cost savings... My D3 Build Thread

On the 1.5B in savings... all I’m going to say is that IFRS requires disclosure of material changes and one may not obscure things that affect the financial statements. If they know they’re needing money for a recall they should state it rather than saying “must save on costs because we’ve spent too much and now must improve efficiency”.
There are more specific changes coming to materiality clauses in IAS 1 and 8 but they’re mandatory only starting 2020 (and voluntary before that).

I wonder what will cost LR more, fixing some cars in some countries waaaaaaaaaay too late, whilst ignoring their home market, or loosing customers that had been faithful to the brand for decades?

I think it’s because the authorities insist on it. Probably more a side effect of Chinese protectionism than concern for consumer (or other...) rights Korea was most likely the same - they did use the word “voluntarily” but it’s a fine line of getting the message and pretending to do good...
Apologies for a slightly jaded view of corporate politics and spin on communications

They’re most likely thanking their lucky stars they didn’t use the Diesel engines in USA. 8) VW reserved 10B USD to buy back ~550k vehicles. Valuations were pre-scandal and there was some extra compensation involved so it was a pretty good deal for the consumer. Alternatively you could get your car fixed course....
There was an extra ~5B in fines, to Uncle Sam, as extra incentive to not do it again.

When people stop buying them. Aren’t LR whining that sales are down in China? lol and behold they start to do something about it.
Funnily enough I was shooting yesterday and somewhere that would have been 90% LR products was 1 Disco3 (my old one still going strong), an estate 110 an old 90 and a Fl2. The only one that was 3 years old or newer was the 110. Conversely there was 5 Ford pickups one of which was older, 3 HiLux one of which was older 2 Mitsubishi both new and my Porsche.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
