Labour Time To Change Rear PDC? |
|
Hi...
I have just had a rear parking sensor changed and an EGR fault cleared by a local independent gararge.
Apart from a massive overcharge on the sensor and replacement of the loom because "looms are common to wear" (so not sure this was actually needed), the labour charge is for 2.5 hours.
Does 2.5 hours sound a little excessive for this work..?
Thank you... nil admirari

Simple answer, it’s probably about right. I’d guess 1-1.5 hour was removing the bumper and re-fitting.
30 min - 1 hour finding which sensor is at fault/replace. Diagnostics is ‘usually’ a fixed charge of one hour rate.
Garages don’t race through jobs, unfortunately. Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Well I guess it’s done now and that’s that - I took my D4 on and off in around 1 hour with after watching a YouTube how-to but that’s how they make money right? Stolen - D4 Loire Blue

Diagnostics was charged as a separate entry on the invoice so I am assuming the labour was all about the work on changing the PDC sensor... nil admirari

Famous Five..
If I knew you were just down the road and could have done it in an hour, I would have happily paid you to do it!
I get they need to make money but a total bill of £380 seems a little steep to me. I could be wrong... nil admirari

The loom, and a parking sensor amount to about £100 on the advanced factors site. What did this place charge for the parts ? Must admit, when I had problems with mine I replaced the wiring loom as well as 2 faulty sensors to ensure it all worked. Taking the rear bumper off and on more than once is a pain. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Rear bumper remove and replace is 0.7hr which is 42 mins the loom and sensors can then be changed quite quickly, i would question the labour with them. Andrew

I haven't paid the bill yet as they dropped the car home to clear space and emailed an invoice this morning. nil admirari
