In the past I’d have been one of the first to jump on the band wagon moaning about these guys, but these days I’m a little more careful about reserving my opinions until after the initial what appears to be a cut and dried case against them is examined in more detail.
Social media obviously has the ability to blow these things up before all the facts are known and the actual guilty party has been identified.

For example the marine engineer I know who’s premises were raided looking for stolen outboard engines after the Marine crime unit found a stolen outboard on his stand at a Boat Jumble.
Because Stolen outboards are such an issue he always makes sure he sees some form of title, and in this case was satisfied with what he’d been shown.

The actual Guilty party turned out to be the original engine owner, who’d claimed on insurance for the engine being stolen then also sold it to the marine engineer.
But the Police had turned up in numbers at his workshop in a busy part of town, blocking the access road to other businesses, and turned customers away whilst they searched.
He was proven to be completely innocent in the matter, but his business suffered a lot for the wrongful public shaming.
Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

The police have been investigating Land Rover garages in the area.

The garage is going to release a statement soon about the matter.

He was very open about the matter in the call, I’m looking forward to getting a fully working and recommissioned D3 back on my driveway. Thumbs Up

One of many locally & across the country to be getting a visit. I speak to Dave regularly & they'll be releasing a statement on their page once legally advised.
15 engines on site & no issues, plod have taken some seats, doors & some trim - not sure how they plan to ID as stolen due to no markings etc.

Another business locally had a visit pre Christmas & were told to carry on trading just as MDRS have been, though from my understanding investigations are ongoing Thumbs Up

UPDATE:

MDRS Automotive
·
As some of you are aware, as part of a joint effort between JLR and Uk Police to crack down on car theft, we, along with a number of Land Rover specialists and Breakers were paid a visit on 15th February '24 by Consett Police and a few of their friends.
We fully cooperated with their extensive search of our property and subsequent vehicle checks. Police contacted the owners of over 40 Land Rovers on our site, all of which were confirmed as not stolen or of any concern.
The scale of our operation means we hold over 2500 lines of new and used car parts ready to save someone’s Land Rover at any given moment. Unfortunately, during the thorough search of our parts store, a handful of items were allegedly identified as having a dubious past, equating to less than 0.01% of our onsite stock.
We have been back to business as usual since 16th February.
A huge thank you to all the supportive messages, phone calls and those popping in for a cuppa and a chat! We wish to be as fully transparent as we can regarding this situation and are happy discussing all aspects of it with anyone needing any extra reassurance, just drop us a call.
 Paul.

So there were stolen parts on site?

Also, 0.01% of 2500 is 0.25.
0.25 of a single part was stolen? Laughing

A "line" would be a single part number or product code, there could be more than one example of an individual part. i.e. 6 injectors reclaimed from an engine would be 1 line.

Not sure how plod or even LR could ID a door card as being stolen, never seen anything other than a part no on the back of mine when off 🤷‍♂️
You’ll have removed 1 or 2 Mike, assume you’ll have missed the VIN on them as well 🤷‍♂️

All i did was copy & paste the released statement👍

As per previous post, they’re not the 1st to have had a visit & won’t be the last

On things like door cards, there are stickers with the VIN printed on Thumbs Up

Also, their statement doesn't match up with that of the police. They said they removed parts from 4 different vehicles...

And long may it continue.

This company is legit so has nothing to worry about. Only by plod doing these checks are the dodgy ones can be taken out of the market.

Agree with Mikey here.. You can identify most parts on vehicles nowadays due to the just in time build data required by OEM”s.
Stolen parts are stolen parts… and what do you think is happening to all those cars being stolen.. the majority of them are broken and their parts recycled by being sold to garages, repair shops, eBay, Facebook etc..
Having parts from one car is unlucky.. having parts from 4 is somewhat different and none of us know how many parts have allegedly already been through those premises….

It totally depends on what and how many parts from the individual vehicles were present..I.e were there multiple parts from the same car? Or only four components, one from each car?

Only the Police and the owner know the truth… what I can say is to get a warrant the police have to satisfy the Courts that there is more than just a whim and this is a targeted operation rather than a friendly visit..

You decide…

Always a tricky one with anything to do with spare parts.

I have bought seats, wheels bits of trim and bits and pieces in the past from Ebay and on this forum etc.

Must be a nightmare if the suspect parts taken from vehicles at the garage are on customers vehicles or trade in cars, how is anyone going to check a door panel on a vehicle or a wheel let alone some more obscure bits.

The only time I ever had any issue with anything i was buying ironically was something advertised by a fairly new member on this site that had been purchased with a dodgy credit card by the seller. Martin had been contacted by someone about the item and informed me - therefore I was able to avoid any issues!
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

As prev posted there have been a number of premises locally had visits, some have had items removed from their premises, some haven't.
I have no connection to the business other than being a customer & knowing Dave to chat to & that's the same for others in the area, I am however fully aware that the investigation is & will be ongoing for a fair while yet, not just MDRS but others as well.

Quote from business lifted from their FB page in the interests of keeping a thread that probably concerns us all updated & nothing more, so anything further would be just speculation, something I'll leave to others....

As with many things E-blag has a plentiful supply of used rims, tow bars etc, provenance difficult at the best of times, regardless you either buy an item in good faith or don't, be that Ebay, FB Marketplace, local corner shop ad or here/any of the countless forum that exist.

Also as stated no VIN ID seen on the rear of either of my front door cards when removed, seeing as the vehicle came direct from a LR Dealer at 12 months old do I need to be concerned?.........

I frequently working alongside a specialised unit within the local constabulary I'm fairly aware of how they work. Thumbs Up

I can put you at ease in those circumstances. However there are a number of other ways to identify parts.. it would not be appropriate on this forum to tell how. Very Happy
