Money pit or just something to expect?

I'm interested in a Disco but the Mot history seems to suggest it's quite bad underneath.
Is this common or should this one be avoided? (it's not cheap)

Hi,

you can never really tell it just gives an indication what to look at Confused

If its now wearing a new set of boots and has had rear arms and front roll bars replaced, (from previous fails/advised) then at least its been repaired, check usual stuff and pay more attention to these arears

we had a D2 that had advisories for 4 or 5 years for chassis corroded never welded it and new owners first MOT afterwards it never got mentioned and still not welded Shocked

my recent bought D3 had advised Low rear pads, when stripped the pads were fine Rolling Eyes
but the brake shoes were Censored and its now got new discs, pads and shoes

I dont like seeing advisories for things that the owner could have seen/been aware of BEFORE going for the MOT, so bald tyres, lights outs and wipers no good does not sit well for me, preventative is better than repair Whistle

Advisories for rust seem to depend very much on the tester.
Up here they're used to seeing it on pretty much every car and won't mention surface rust so long as the underlying metal is sound. Down south they seem, generally, much keener to put any rust as advisories.
I've never really seen susp. arms being a real issue with rust (they're kind of service parts anyway), though they will often have quite a bit of rust on them.
If it's where the arms mount rather than the arms themselves that'd be a much bigger issue.
Biggest problems now seem to be sills when not looked after (esp. when side steps were fitted) and the chassis where the rear driveshafts go through, probably because that's where plenty of brake fluid drips down before the steel brake pipes finally let go before being replaced with copper.

Hi,

well the arms have not been replaced then Shocked

if the bushes are fine budget for replacing the arms when they do need doing (depends on your mileage/time) as the bolts dont look like coming out easily Laughing if unsure budget on replacing soon

bar across looks more like surface rust, as said have a look at the mounting points and cills, if possible where the drive shaft comes thorugh the hub, there has been a recent post showing this area holed.
