Do I need a wheel protector?

2016 Landmark with Adblue and 20" wheels. I seem to have what looks like a plastic cover over my spare and at least one advert for wheel protectors said it wasn't suitable for Adblue vehicles. Is that purely because Adblues have got a protector already or is it that the fitting is different? If a different fitting is required does anyone make a suitable one?

You need imho, one of these...

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sale-rld-sp...00600.html

Spare wheels disappear from under vehicles when they are parked regularly in the same place or at airports at varying frequency.

They pop up for sale now and again or you can contact member 'RLD' and arrange to buy one.

Worth also saying that you should keep the spare pretty tightly wound up as any play in the fitted spare allows a would be thief to rotate the wheel until the cable simply fray snaps.

Well worth the outlay....

with addblue the spare is mounted face down because the add blue tank is in the middle of the wheel...the plastic cover is just that a crappo cover...the wheel protector RLD is a metal plate to protect cable...easy to fit wellworth the money..if you dont..it could be damage/loss..to wheel..winch hassle and much money to replace

Without a doubt the RLD Spare wheel protector is the answer & should be fitted to every Discovery.

I've got one on my 2016 Landmark and its a great piece of kit, well worth the investment. Think of it as a one time insurance payment. I messaged RLD on here and sorted it that way.

TBH, "we" do not see the " loan" or "nick" behaviour very often here on the mainland Europe...

"knock on wood" though.. lets keep it this way

Having PM'd Ray he pointed me toward Brendan and I'm now the proud owner of a wheel protector.

I've fitted it but had a couple of questions:

    1. The plastic studs came with 'O' rings, I originally put the stud through the wheel then put the 'O' ring over to hold the stud in place on the wheel, then put the protector on. The problem is that there's not enough space to then put the pin through the stud. For now I've left the 'O' rings off but should I just be using more force?

    2. When I dropped the spare there are scuffed patches on the sidewall where the tyre rubs against the chassis, is that normal or should there be some sort of bumper on the chassis members to protect the tyre?

If it's moving against the chassis, I'd suggest it needs winching up a little harder.

Put the studs through the spare in the correct format to accept the plastic cover (you can see the pattern against the holes), put the plate on in the inside of the wheel, put the or ring over the stud on top of the plate and then push through the pin. The o ring stops the pin rattling on the plate.

Depending on type of wheel protector you are talking about a cost of £100

Have your spare wheel stolen and on a adblue version there could be a bill of up to £1500, depending on rim and tyre. I got told of someone who had 3 spare wheels stolen before getting some protection.

Think of it as an insurance policy otherwise find out when you have a puncture at night time in the rain or your disco is in for a service that your spare wheel is missing.
