Rear Light Cluster ebay saga
Hi, I recently upgraded my rear lamps on my 2010 HSE, from the red ones to the newer black ones.
I sold the old pair on EBay.They were pretty near perfect condition as can be seen in the photo.
Today the buyer requested a return for refund.He says that after fitting, the lamps are damaged and letting in moisture.He sent me these photos of the lamps fitted.
Any idea what might be going on here.

they dont look like there in the same condition as the earlier pic .the pic with the condensation there looks to be some minor cracks in the sides of the clear parts that are not evident on the first pics . getting his old ones is a possibility

Yes you may be right there, I am deeply suspicious and not very hopeful of a positive outcome.EBay usually finds in favour of buyers in these situations.

I didn’t know second hand items had a warranty.
I think that would be my argument. If they were faulty when received, the buyer shouldn’t have fitted them

If he claims its condensation then LR will tell you that it is perfectly normal in lighting units depending on humidity etc.

This is what the buyer said in his return request.
(Hello, I’ve just had these lights installed. There’s an issue with moisture entering the light and sealed unit causing them to shatter. I didn’t expect this to happen after 2 days of instalment and it wasn’t mentioned they were faulty. I would like a refund please. Kind regards, “)

That's difficult to imagine tbh ...never heard of such. Tell him that you security marked yours and refuse the refund.
In the photo's, it looks like they have been banged. Look at the black surround at the bottom of the lights.L633 Defender

I was wondering if there is any possibility that the bulbs are overheating,could such a thing happen.
Has any forum member heard of anything like this.

Double bluff the buyer as already stated above.
Ask him to return them for a full refund. Go on to say as soon as you can verify the security markings on them made using smart water (or similar), he can have his money back.
Say this is a practice you have used for years to prevent fraudulent returns and it works very well.
Then see if he returns them.
I have used this bluff a few times when I can see someone is trying to do a 'swap'.

those are definitely 2 different sets of lights,
ask him for photos of the same area on his old lights so you can compare your original photo, the photo he claims are your faulty lights, and his original lights. There should be 3 very different sets of photos if he is pulling a fast one.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten
