Removable Tow Bar Rebuild help |
|
Can any on e help me I have had to remove the green handle to get the tow bar off. As the key is ceased and the lock won't turn. I have taken it to bits to clean it and seem to have a single ball bearing now. Can any one help me with the rebuilding of this part.

If you've got that far, it should be really obvious how you'd replace the 'main mechanism'. Easier/cheaper just to buy a new 'part' rather than repair
Speak to Nick at Yeovil Land Rover for the parts you need

I'm sure someone sent me a PM, but I can't find it.. Seem to remember that it involved some molegrips, I've still got the pieces in the garage As you slide down the banister of life

Found it!!!! Courtesy of TallPaul
Quote "Yes annoying isn't it! My towbar arrived with a broken key and the supplier sent me a new lock but no instructions on how to change it so I opened the plate and the rest is history.
To get it back together I used a G-Clamp to wind the locking pin back in until the ball bearing engaged (pressed ball bearing down as it was close to housing with fingers I think, might have been small g-clamp). I then tried to align the spline on the bar that the handle connects to into the right position. Took a few goes to get locking lever in right location but its perfectly possible to do.
There should be a small spring under the ball bearing, and a large spring that pushes the locking pin out into the locked position. Locking pin should be very difficult to push back in as spring is strong (hence g-clamp needed), so perhaps this spring is missing? Unquote
It wasn't molegrips after all. As you slide down the banister of life

Overhauled my towbar last night - had some spare ball bearings at the ready, as I had lost the original one when doing it earlier in the week. Worked out well, followed the powerfuluk videos on youtube which were helpful
