Roll Out Awnings - Caravan/Motorhome

Hi all

Looking at these as they look ideal as a bit of a shower shade, sun shade and I don't get on with awnings.

Has anyone got one, are they as good as they look?

Any makes to avoid? Price seems to vary quite a bit on TowSure.

Cheers

CaravanStor Zip, best thing we did, had one for ten years, use it as just a shade, up in minutes. On the day we go home, we can have everything packed away and hitched up in thirty minutes.
You don’t want to go away for a few days and spend hours putting up an awning and taking it down, can be put away wet.

Just make sure it’s tethered down well in the wind, it’s like a sail, we either roll it up if it’s getting bad or attached the panels which just zip in, to stop the wind getting under it.

Get a blow up awning quick and simple and no messing around with poles. We have a Vango Air awning. It goes up in less than 10 minutes.

I’m not a fan of awnings

I want something that can hang and be used if we want or not

It’s storing the big awnings, hassle if they got away wet etc Thumbs Up

Some ‘vans have suffered with the awning rail coming away and leaking after using the pull out type awnings/shades (fiamma type) as the weight when travelling has loosened the awning rail.

I haven’t tried one, but have both full Isabella awning and a Kampa air porch awning, which gets more use now. I am tempted to sell the Isabella as we have only used the roof section the last few summer outings ( and possibly just one end), and maybe just buy a sun canopy.

I have had the fiamma 4.2 mt awning mounted on the side of my roof rack for the last ten years, its great when you need one..

I use it for both camping and work.

Flack Thumbs Up

But your roof rack is possibly more secure and heftier design than some of the awning rails the caravan manufacturers use and fit Whistle

Our Caravanstorzip was mounted in the awning rail for six years on the Bailey California and has been hanging on the Swift for five years so far, no issues yet.
