Service Interval Indicator

Hi hope someone can help! recently purchased a Discovery 4 and I’m trying to find what the car has stored in relation to the next service, but cannot seem to be able to find it anywhere within the Instrument Panel.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

If nothing in your service book at the very least do an oil and filter service

I have an MY16 D4 and I’m not aware of anyway to view service information (forthcoming or previous). It does give a warning and a bit of a countdown when the a service is coming up/ due and I believe when an oil service is coming up. These are fleeting messages on starting the car.
There may be a facility to do so with a diagnostic tool, but I don’t have one.
Good luck with your new car.
Cheers

Hi markate
What specifically did you have in mind? Apart from the service indicator I mentioned, all I found was:

"Service data recorders in the vehicle are capable of collecting and storing diagnostic information about the vehicle. Potentially, this includes information about the performance or status of various systems and modules in the vehicle. Such systems and modules are the engine, accelerator pedal, steering, or brakes.

In order to properly diagnose and service the vehicle, a retailer/authorised repairer may access the vehicle's diagnostic information. To access the information, a direct connection to the vehicle is required"

Cheers

Gary

Most of the time the service information is not visible to the owner. The only rough guide you can use is the Ad Blue Distance remaining which counts down mileage as you use the Ad Blue.

Approximately one month before a service is due the vehicle will start displaying days to service and/or miles to service. if you go beyond the service due date the days to service will show a negative number.

The other indication you may see will be 'Oil Service Due Visit Dealer' or similar which appears when the quality of the remaining oil is degraded by DPF regenerations. The timing of this varies but in normal driving should coincide with the service due date. If you do lots of short journeys you may find the message appears sooner.

Hope that helps?

Does the D4 have some sort of algorithm for calculating when a service is due?
I ask, because I have done 3700 miles over the last year and my car is stating a service is due ( in 1050 miles now). The last service was done at the end of May last year and 90% of my miles in that 3700 have been on journeys of 30 miles or more ( with little town driving) so I am thinking it is unlikely to be oil dilution driving the request for a service. That’s why I’m wondering if it uses an algorithm based on the date to come up with the miles to service left? (Perhaps by dividing the miles between service by months/weeks) and calculating how many left to the end of 1 year? I do know these miles drop quite rapidly (about a month ago it was stating over 4000 to the next service.
Interested to know if anyone knows.
Cheers.

Service interval is 12 months or 16000 miles (i think) and the car will flag up a Service due message as you approach a 12 month interval. Oil dilution messages are based on the number of regeneration cycles performed which given a low mileage are unlikely to be flagged up.

Thanks for the reply.
In that case, it appears that the mileage countdown is based on some calculation of mileage that is likely to be covered in the remaining period. Strange that they choose to state service due on a mileage basis when they are simply basing it on a 12m interval (in my case). I suppose they had to choose one or the other to cover a mileage forced service requirement for those cars doing over 16,000 miles in a year. Doesn't seem very clever. It has a Calendar/clock and knows the mileage, why not use it?
Cheers
