Silly questions probably
Hi all just a few niggling questions
Undone the battery and when resetting the clock via radio, the bash clock remains blank? Is there something I’m missing here please?
Also gear changes seem quite clunky, colicky and stiff. Unless changing gears slowly and delicately.
Is this normal?
I did change the gear oil in my manual recently and has been leaking slightly from above.
Lastly, accelerating, seems to be a jump / sudden acceleration when doing cruise control or foot pedal. Is this normal? Recently did fuel filter change and bled air out. Thinking maybe needs air draining again maybe or is it normal to have a clunky drive (as my mum calls it lol)Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Golden rule - you changed something and something no longer works = go back and check what you changed..

When you say check...
Gear oil how do I check just drain it out and refill it? Very expensive oil so can I reuse?
Fuel filter I presume bleed again?
Clock I presume battery doesn’t need checking as it works to start the engine?Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

maybe all your gear oil has leaked out. I suspect that is likely
They have a level plug I assume. If it doesn't stream out when removed, improvise a dip stick with a bent bit of wire, to see how far away from the hole it is.
If you can't find oil then its low!

It had a cup worth when I drained the old stuff.
Put 1.6l in and it’s leaking 2-3 drops a day from above. Certainly hasn’t leaked 1.6l in 5 weeks.
Shall I drain it and reuse? Seems to be golden and clean looking still!Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Thanks Pete a simple yet wise idea!
I’ll unscrew like the oil one and should see increase in dripping.
Let’s say the gear oil is level... does that mean the gear change stiffness is normal?Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

yes with the gearoil low, the gear change isn't going to feel quite right.
Maybe you noticed an improvement when you went from a cup full of oil to correct level
With the level plug removed, usually oil should come out of it a tiny bit

The D3 gearbox and differentials are filled by measured amount not level.
It may be that the gearbox filler plug acts as a level plug but it's use as such is not the recommended procedure.
My advice would be to drain the oil, measure it and reuse with any additional amount needed. Then you will know what the exact situation regarding the amount lost is and whether the problem is caused by an incorrect level.
Not sure where the leak is coming from but it would be best sorted if not a big job.

It was an estimate of 1.6l maybe my liquid guessing accuracy isn’t so good.
I’ll redo it

I swear this thing has a mind of it’s own
Changed the bonnet struts, took 2 minutes! Thought it was too easy a job
Remove both battery terminals for 5 minutes to reset the clock and hope the dash clock comes on.. which it does... but now central locking won’t lock with key fob! Grr
Tried rubbing the new fob battery to no joy
Tried internal locking which works
Cleared codes which did nothing
Keeping a window open an inch just in case
Only thing I can think of it reprogram the keys?
But if I do so the other two are miles away in a safe so I darent this one as it still starts engine. Just won’t lock doors
Any clues there please?Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Ok cheers
Gonna get the other keys before I do anything else on way to work in the morning. See if I can lock with another key while it’s in work. Then I’ll disconnect etc tomorrow
Really need to find a skinny arm to get the window out and get this manual lock working!!
