| Smoke from rear of the engine |

Hello all.
2008 2.7L TDV6, 188k KM (~115k miles).
After long drives, on occasion, I get smoke coming up from the bonnet.
When I open the bonnet, I see it smoking from the rear of the engine between the back of the engine and the cabin.
Location-wise, it's somewhere behind where the HPFP sits...
The bottom of the engine is dry. no oil.
Bottom of the automatic box is unfortunately not so dry. I'm suspecting the untrusty ZF6HP26 sleeve...
I am a bit lost here. Can anyone give me some tips about things to check?

Exhaust or oil being burnt smoke ? , could be the crossover pipe or oil leaking down onto the pipe.

To me it smells like oil being burned.
Might be an oil leak at the back of the engine that smokes when the oil drops touches the crosspipe.
What do you think?

Seems most likely, the oil filter housing gasket is known to fail and oil leaks down the back of the engine.
