Strange EPB problems…Help! |
|
Morning all.
After endless fault hunting I’ve hit a brick wall with the EPB.
Replaced module off a stripped D4, handbrake cables, shoes, discs, pads etc etc all new. Adjustment procedure all done.
Amber warning light and park brake fault on the dash. Checked the fuse and XYZ (manual D3).
Handbrake only works when the handbrake switch is held up. Will not stay on. It releases itself when you let go of the handbrake switch. All fault codes are U codes and are permanent.
I can only explain the module sounds like a battery drill running out of battery. Starts off fast and then goes really slow toward the end of applying the handbrake. Sounds silky smooth, but slow… as if it’s almost running out of battery at the end (if it were a drill to describe it)
At a bit of a dead end.
Would a wrong shoe adjustment cause U codes?
Thank you in advance. Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

I’m all ears - happy to learn.. I wasn’t aware of differences in Canbus speeds. Would that explain the U codes? Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Yeah that would explain U codes.
Maybe someone else can confirm.
But you could check the part numbers of both modules to see if they are the same

What was the problem with your original module? if it was mechanical, you could just swap the control board, which can be done in situ if you unbolt and rotate the module 180deg. on the cables....
The switch connects directly to the module so CAN frame size makes no difference to the switch operation
