Andi, you may actually be correct and it is just taking a bit longer on my vehicle for all the checks to be completed. With my last car (FL2) the airbag was the last light to go out and I found that it was always worth waiting for it to go out before firing up the engine. That wait could easily be as long as it takes for this one to give me the sound. I'm pretty sure all the warning lights have gone off before it sounds and I am now so used to it that it barely registers.
It may be battery health related, as I've noticed a couple of times, when sitting running through stuff on the GAP Tool, that a battery message has appeared on the dash, telling me that the battery is at 12.3 volts. Charging is still 14.4V and it measures at 12.5V before start-up, so it doesn't seem too bad, but I guess we'll see when we get into colder temps.Previously:

If you want to fit the passenger cup holder they are easy to find used on eBay - it’s a 5 minute job to fit.
The bing could be an aftermarket Bluetooth audio device tucked somewhere in the car…Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hi Worms,
I can answer this one
that square piece of trim should contain an air vent which is lovely source of air for the nether regions.
It looks like its missing the slats (or you pulled them out).
This whole trim is removed by pulling down (hard) from the top where there are clips.

Darrind, thanks. I've had my phone search for bluetooth connections while in the car and not found anything, but the car clearly had something fitted, as the plastic trim at the side of the radio has a cut-out which was presumably for a cable.Previously:

Nick, thanks. Yes, I'm guessing that is what I pulled out! I've tried putting it back in but I'm not sure that the wee lugs that hold it in are going to cope with being forced a second time!

In my experience, any plastic parts on a vehicle tend to be a no-go area between September and April around here. It's 4C this morning and I'm not sure I am brave enough to try pulling plastic trim off at these temps. Besides, the upsides of fixing versus the downsides of breaking don't tick my boxes for risk versus reward at the moment!
I suspect this is one of these tasks that I will irrationally decide to do at some point when I am sitting in the car getting bored waiting for someone to come out of a shop... Previously:

Bong
I thought the bong was when you start was the seat belt bong.
this can be stopped by putting the seatbelt into the socket 10 time in 10 seconds.

Flapper, Thanks, I think you are onto something there, but having been out and tested it, I'm now more confused than ever...
The noise is not the same as the "car door open, key in ignition" chime and it is not quite the same as the rear sensor bong. It is slightly higher pitched and coming from the middle of the dash. I'd still class it as a bong rather than a chime.
It is a single bong, only at start-up, but happens with ignition-on regardless of whether the key has been turned fully to start the engine. It happens with ignition-on in any of P, R or D, but not in N.
There is no difference between having the seatbelt in place or not. When I first tried it just now, it was repeatably at 24 seconds, but after moving the car, it was happening at 16 seconds, so the timing is perhaps temperature related.
If I do the 9-clicks routine, then I get a single opportunity to start the car without the noise, but it then returns the next time I turn the ignition.
I can't seem to get the car to do the seatbelt warning chimes that the manual suggests it should, but the warning symbol on the dash works properly and extinguishes at 2 seconds when I turn ignition on with the seatbelt clicked in place.
I might delve into the configuration set-up to see if it has been permanently set to disable the seatbelt warning chimes - that might explain why I am not getting them, regardless of the 9-click on or off. It might also make sense for the chimes-disabled setting to come with a bong reminder at start-up?

Darrind is the winner! I've now tracked down that there is a Nokia CK-7W connected to the radio! Having linked to it by Bluetooth, the unexplained beep exactly correlates to the Bluetooth link establishing. Now that the phone is paired I also get a corresponding beep when I turn the ignition off again and it cuts the BT link! So while I have added to my knowledge of the car, I now have an extra beep that I didn't have before!
The Nokia unit works well with the car radio but I am going to need a microphone and a remote switch for it to operate properly hands-free. Is it too much to hope that someone just pushed all the cables etc in behind the radio and they are still there? I've played with the CCF settings for the phone options in the hope that there might be a factory-fitted microphone that I could enable, but no success as yet.Previously:

Nokia Mics are plenty on eBay, but are you sure there isn’t one already fitted? Make a test call using your phone.

Pete, yes I had made a test call, to see if it worked at all. Using my iPhone phone buttons, I was able to call my wife - the radio switched over to the phone call and she was loud and clear through the car speakers. She couldn't hear me at all and I had to switch back to phone to speak to her. Switching to phone took control of the call from the Nokia device back to my iPhone, which meant that her voice switched back to the phone speaker. When I was connected through the Nokia device, there wasn't even any white noise on the line for my wife to hear, just nothing - so I'm presuming there is nothing connected to the microphone port on the Nokia.
I did wonder if the D3 microphone was present and simply disabled on the CCF settings, but changing the Phone settings on CCF to bluetooth phone didn't seem to make any difference. There are a number of other options on there which I've not explored, but as you say, I should be able to get a cheap microphone on ebay. Too wild a day out there to spend time taking the radio out to see what is physically connected, but I plan to do that before ordering a microphone. I just bought a cheap bluetooth unit for the car last week (crap piece of kit, actually) and it was only my prolonged attempts to get it to connect properly that led me to find the Nokia unit.Previously:

You won’t be able to use the LR mic electrically or by options.
In the overhead console there are mic positions for LHD and RHD
I took the Nokia mic out of its case and fitted it in the spare position. A bit of tape over the rear to hold it in place (but not air tight) and it works ok.
