Suspension sinking over a few days
Had my camera out two nights this week and thought I'd scientifically measure how much my suspension sinks over the three days I am away each week when the D3 is parked on the drive.

Judicious use of Paintshop Pro comapring the difference against the 17" rim suggests to me that the suspension has settled down by nearly 2 inches.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Next time you're away for three days, I'd be tempted to leave it with a dealer.....
I think you've definitely got a problem somewhere. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Why? It's just levelling itself on Steves 'crazy' paving 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Steve, does the whole car sink or is it just the rear.
When I get out of mine in Normal road height, it farts and lowers itself automatically.
Don't think it goes all the way down to access height, but it does lower.
I take this as being normal ... is this so?I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

I don't think it should sink at all. Mine doesn't.
Does it return to normal height after starting the engine? if it does then it can't be self-levelling thats causing it to lower.

Ron, I think this is completely normal....mine does it every time I get out...it drops around 10mm.
However, it doesn't sink any further when left for a day or two. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
Mine sinks over time too, but not when in the dealer overnight to check.
When the dealer checked it, they disconnect the battery as they only look for leaks. If the gradual sinking is software related, or driven by odd sensor signals, they won't pick it up as it's not a leak.
So car sinking because it's not a leak is not a car sinking.
Go figure I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I thought they woke up every so often and leveled the suspension. Surely this constant farting will cause some sinking?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

My drive slopes and my D3 regularly farts and drops it's nose down shortly after I get out.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.
so does mine, in fact my D2 did at the back as well.
It may be due to the relief of my 17 stones getting out

Yes it can - because it can't level upwards due to the compressor not running the only way it can go is down, the software will seek to acheive the best level it can given the sensor readings. Changes in air density (due to temperature) will cause the suspension to progressively drop over a few days hence the gradual lowering - as long as it lifts when you start the engine and one corner isn't lower than the others I can't see it as being an issue

Being of strange mind I provoked the suspension into super extended mode with the aid of a trolley jack. Thinking that this might be a good way to change wheels I turned the engine off and leaving the said jack (poor guy) under the frame near the wheel to change, I lowered the suspension to access mode. The suspension was lowered but as soon as finished, click electric whirr, it was back up again (engine off). The only way I could get the suspension to stay down was to open a door at an appropriate time.
Is the compressor electric or is there a reservoir of compressed air ?
BTW idea didnt work very well for changing wheels. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
