| This weather triggered me to order a D4 XS! |

Having been Audi estate owners (  ) SWMBO and I knew we were going to have to get a bigger car to accommmodate the logistical challenges of two babies under two.
It all came to a head on Monday night - both SWMBO and I both had to abandon our cars and walk home. SWMBO did a super-heroic job of carrying the two babies through the snow to get home safe and sound.
Fortunately she was about half a mile away. But that was enough for us both and we were grateful it wasn't further away.
The very next morning, we decided enough was enough, and I ordered a D4 XS in Stornoway grey with Ebony interior through Motorlogix. Can't decide if having a step is worth it.....
Am very excited  ....but have to wait until late March for delivery

Good choice of car and colour Look forward to hearing about your new car next year. Now driving BMW 330d Touring....misses D3...but not when at traffic lights

They are a good thing to have if fitted only to protect the side of the car, I bought mine from a member off the board and just did a swap, took them off in a hotel carpark and fitted them on mine and put the blank sill covers back on his, took me about 30 mins total, very easy job and saves you a lot of money from stealer prices.

IMHO, No it's not. If you do want to go off road then you'll end up bending them. I think a few SMWBO's like them, but TBH my wife doesn't have an issue getting in and out and if you do have a baby seat in the middle of the middle row then it will make it a bit further to stretch to do up the straps etc.
if you're not sure, then don't botherm they can easily be fitted afterwards if you feel you want them, but see how you get on first. Don't forget you can lower the car to access height for getting in and out. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Great choice but the only word of caution I would add having had to crash a D3 into a wall to stop it in snow is that tyres and decent ones should be your next investment for your D4.

Thanks for the tipsd everyone - will see how it fares without the steps to start.
BTW - what are the best tyres for wear considering mostly road with occasional offroad?

I went for a tyre called the Vredestein Wintrac 4 extreme. Good all year round tyre but especially good in the snow. Don't be afraid to ask in the tyre section of the forum for advice

that's what "access height" is for.
as for tyres.. at2's are popular,and personally they are working well so far, for more "winter" oriented the ve..(cant spell the name).... are looking good,,
you sure you dont want a D3?  one wife.......livid
