They (x6) are in a very obvious place on top of the engine with a thick wire going to each of them via 2 harnesses.
If you need to ask this then I suggest you do not consider tackling them. They are incredibly difficult to get out in one piece without a specialist tool. Even then they may break, which is no fun at all.

The glow plugs are located in the centre of the engine. Requires a lot of dismantling before you can get to them and as Robbie says they are normally extremely difficult to remove.
Took me about 6 hours with a vibration removal tool, and ended up drill one out.

Thank you
Thank you guys, I think I will leave it to the garage then, at least if anything happens they take responsibility.

Do not be surprised if the garage does not take responsibility for removal; they may have caveats due to the fragility.
Try to ascertain what they do if a plug breaks; if they only offer head removal then consider finding a garage that has the ability and tools to remove broken plugs without such drastic action. Remember that it is not the garages fault that they are made from dried macaroni.
Good luck.

Hi,
I have just bought a car (it's a RRS but don't all shout at once!) and the previous owner had a new set of plugs fitted, the garage did tell him the would do there best but if any break the bill goes skywards very quickly
3 broke He had a few other bits done as well (pump belt ) the bill was £1700

Cost £2200 to have all mine replaced!
4/6 had failed, garage did warn me that if I went ahead with the job then they would NOT accept responsibility if they snapped. They did, and the body/head had to be removed to sort it.
This was probably 3 years ago now though, and there seems to be more of these vibrating tools around now 2014 D4 XS
